I suspect that she did but she feels that the advice might be ignored so she went public. Of the name commonly mentioned, wouldn't Christie be the only one who really qualifies as an establishment type? Pence might be a sitting governor but I don't see him as being part of the party's inner circle.
Go away Sarah
Amen.
Sorry, folks, but over the past two weeks I have seen every one of you list some opposition to EVERY SINGLE NAME that has been raised.
No one is perfect. The general isn’t “pro-life” enough. Pence is “too boring and establishment.”
Christie is “too establishment” and doesn’t draw enough Dems.
Ernst and Corker bailed (good).
Newt has “too much baggage” and “shoots his mouth off too much.”
Trump has two irreconcilable goals: he must unite the GOP, which means some sort of pick who is at least palpable to the establishment, and still staying the “outside” candidate. He cannot satisfy everyone, and any pick he makes is going to get a bunch of people angry.
I like Sessions but he would not bring much fire and we need him in the senate. I like Newt, but he does have a tendency to speak for himself, not Trump, and could be a big liability (not to mention the “two candidates, five marriages” thing).
Pence is establishment and boring, but would absolutely align some of the establishment (and $) behind Trump. However, in the case of Pence or Christie, you might be looking at an impeachment/coup by the GOP congress after inauguration.
I don’t have a good solution. Any general will have no legislative experience at all, meaning he wouldn’t help move things through Congress. Both Newt and Sessions do. But will anyone listen to either of them?
I think someone like Duncan Hunter, while adding no elective value (he won’t swing CA) and while very junior, is a good conservative choice who can be fiery. But I don’t think he’s in the running.
Oh, I agree. Pick someone as far right and out of the mainstream as possible.
But don’t pick that flip-flopping General either.
Simplest and Best Advice.
Hey sports fans, going even further to the right will NOT win elections. the democraps out number us by a margin of almost 2:1. Trump can not win with out the moderates & NO amount of yelling & screaming is going to change that fact. By going “hard-line” conservative, he is shutting out those will be needed to win, and his force of personality will shut them out. He needs someone who can appeal to those who are still sitting on the fence & this constant name calling & belittling everyone else is going to put killery in the Oval Office for life.
True, but do you not think also that a lot of “moderates” have been pushed into Trump’s direction because of the horrible incidents that have been happening this summer?
Security and the economy are the top two issues.
I already feel bad for whoever Trump picks as VP because the media is going to savage that poor person.
Pence was the anti-establishment candidate against Boehner for Speaker. How does one now measure him, or anyone with a history, as in or outside the establishment?
If the country has changed but the politician has not because he was good before is that better or worse than a politician who changes with each new fad?
No, because most of them have their heads buried into their phones & other crap & unless it affects their little world right this instant, they could care less [thank you internet/cell phone generations NOT] and they for the most part only get their “news” from their friends lists & other favored info sources. He needs to break into this category of people & even if he does not like them, he needs to appeal to them. And sway their minds/votes before the democraps do.
I am going to comment before I read the other comments. Bet there is some serious Palin bashing going on......
Pretty much Mr. Trump from all the videos of all his rallies has cause interest to grow among the younger folks.
My guess: To poke the GOPe in the eye.
I have not seen one name mentioned that has not brought out copious members to declare if he picks -————— as VP I am voting for Hillary.
I like the idea, but IIRC she does not want it.
I always go back to when she became Governor of Alaska, and one of her first moves was to clean out corruption in her own party. How many others have done anything similar? She scares the living heck out of the GOPe, even though Hillary probably has more dirt on them than Sarah does.
