Vladimir Putin has sacked every single commander in Russia's Baltic fleet in what has been described as a 'Stalin-style' purge. Up to 50 officers of the fleet were fired alongside Vice Admiral Viktor Kravchuk and his chief of staff Rear Admiral Sergei Popov after they reportedly refused to follow orders to confront Western ships. Reports in Russia also suggested the purges followed an alleged cover-up of a submarine accident, flaws in recruitment and military construction projects.

This being far above my old paygrade, I have to ask, what is the history of such events?
So many at once, it appears as a deep cut in the knowledge base and creates a cadre of yes men.
Only our very own dear leader has the ability to make all the decisions all the time./s

A Stalin-Style Purge ends with a one-way trip to The Lubyanka.

"Refuses to confront" means colluding with the enemy. The Orthodox Church is the ONLY approved state church in Russia and they are serious about eliminating protestant evangelical infiltration from the decadent degenerate west. Lots of top Russian brass are secret protestants. There never was a protestant revolution in Russia and looks like there will never be one either. Only a coup by top brass can change this. The news writers of the west were raised in secular humanist schools and are devoid of knowledge of religion save for their imprinted bias that all religion is bogus, god is a myth and how can anyone take religion seriously. That is why they don't report the real news, they cant see the it due to liberal bias.
Why is Putin cracking down on nonorthodox sects like Baptists and Jehova's Witnesses and Assemblies of God? The orthodox church wants this to further their consolidation. They want to keep their monopoly on God - Bog - in Russia.

It is not a “Stalin-style purge.”
After all, they are still alive and not imprisoned in Siberia.

In the case of Stalin, his paranoia almost was his undoing. When Hitler attacked in 1941, his general staff was relatively inexperienced due to the purges. Fortunately for Stalin, Hitler was almost as incompetent, with Germany's unsatisfactory preparation for a land invasion of Russia. He repeated many of Napoleon's mistakes and added some of his own, like alienating the natives and mass killings of Jews.
In the cases of Putin and Obama, their adversaries lived after purges for the most part. Crossing Stalin or Hitler was far more dangerous. Bill and Hillary Clinton resemble the latter tyrants, not the former. From the Arkansas days to the present, their enemies usually wind up suffering deadly accidents or commit suicide by shooting themselves multiple times then walking several feet to their death.

Failure to confront or incapable of confronting?
Perhaps lost in the translation, but Russia’s Navy consists of perhaps a dozen major surface combatants and two dozen subs that can actually leave port under their own power.

“Stalin-like purges”, eh?
The article author does not know what he wrote with that term.
Stalin purges did NOT mean ‘You’re Fired!”, and then go on with your life!
It meant you disappeared off the face of the Earth, forever, with no knowledge, and no word sent to your family, if they were not liquidated as well.

A “Stalin-style purge.”
Yeah, right.
Did these guys get a bullet in the back of the neck, or sent to Siberia? No? Then it isn’t a Stalin-style purge.
Geez, they just got fired for mass insubordination. So what!

What about Lutheranism? Or is it seen in Russia as basically just a ethnic minority religion and thus not a threat to the Orthodox Church?

The orthodox see themselves as the last man standing - the only true church since the Roman church has its problems. Protestantism is viewed as the root of problems, once you start down the path of creating more 'denominations' for any reason, you open the door to sects, cults and heresies. (Baptists, Mormons, Scientology, Quakers are all the same) The perspective from Russia is that western Christianity has splintered into sects, cults and secular humanist atheism.
Witenssing the devolution of Christianity in the west has been a lesson to the Orthodox and the moslem foothold in St Petersburg and Moscow needs to be quashed if white Russia is to maintain control of their nuclear arsenal. Putin needs to quash the moslems, stop the protestant devolution. You don't want a Russia run by moslems.
