Thanks. According to that it looks like they are about equal for recent years.

However it does look like gunfire has been creeping up on traffic related deaths during the Obama years.

Only the 28 gunfire deaths and the 9 vehicular assault deaths are the result of criminal action with the intent to harm the officer—so an average of one every five days. The Dallas incident and the Michigan dustup yesterday are two of only four incidents involving multiple deaths, with Dallas being the only one resulting in more than two deaths.
