The policeman's lawyer said he had a gun, and during a news briefing officials confirmed that a handgun had been recovered from Castiles body. But they do not say where, or at least I haven't heard, where on the body it was recovered from. That may indeed be a gun on his lap, however, supposedly he was retrieving his wallet as well. A majority of the object in his lap is covered by a piece of paper, and the picture is of poor quality and blurry.
All I can say is that you both must have extremely excellent eye sight to state positively that it is a gun, and not a wallet. I myself cannot state what it is, and to me it could be either either item, gun or wallet, or even another item.

The rear sight on the pistol is clearly visible. Not too many wallets come equipped with those.
