It’s like a real-life version of “Survivor.”

That’s a pretty apt description. Gove has been called the world’s first political suicide bomber.

I dont think Boris was ever a true “Leaver”. Up until February this year, all his speeches were about the dangers of leaving.

Boris was the victim of one of the truly great political power plots (some have called it a bloodless political assassination) carried out by Michael Gove

Thx. I follow UK Politics generally but not in detail. What I knew about Gove always gave me the impression of a lower-level politician - lacking the name recognition, experience, personality, leadership or charisma of someone like Boris Johnson. I imagine he is a Lindsay Graham equivalent. Will never lead, but has just enough authority in the government apparatus to 1) fool himself into thinking he can lead, and 2) destroy others more capable or likely to do so.

Is that about right? The fact he was eliminated from contention so quickly seems to prove my hunch is correct.

A strong leader to get England out of this Brexit mess and safely back into its chains that bind it by the neck to Brussels and ultimately to Arabia.

Sadiq. That is, I suspect, the future.

Politicians make a lot of pledges but their actions follow the money.

Well, while we’re posting odds, what would you give (given the kicking and screaming about Trump from the establishment/media on this side of the pond) for whether the Brit Tory or US Republican party is the first to flush itself down the crapper?

JMHO, the Tories seem to want to make a race of it all of a sudden.

...dumber than a pile of wet rocks.

Also, why did Boris Johnson drop out of contention for PM so quickly?

it is confusing.

There was long article about Johnson's dropping out which said that Michael Gove (another Brexit supporter), who was thought to be a Johnson supporter, decided to seek the Prime Ministership himself and more or less stabbed Boris in the back. After Gove's move, Johnson dropped out immediately.

It all seemed odd and it wasn't clear if Johnson was ever seeking the job in a serious way, but Gove did turn on him and then Gove disappeared after only a few days.

Problem here is that none of the candidates seemed promising.

Ideologically Andrea Leadsom appeared to be the best candidate, but she had already made a promise that would have been suicidal; to trigger Article 50 imediately she was elected.

Britain needs a well thoughtout negotiating plan how to leave the EU. To actually hand in a demand to leave before everything is in order is just stupid. The clock will start to tick and the negotiating period (2 years) will start to run out.

Theresa May has promised to push through a BREXIT but she has said she will not go to the EU with an Article 50 demand before she has a team and a plan ready, and that may well take until Christmas or longer.

Well, Britain has been stuck in the EU /EEC since 1973, so a few months longer, just to make certain that things will be handled in a proper way is a small sacrifice indeed.

Thank you for clearing that up. I’m so quick to blame them for stepping down that I forget about the politics behind that.

And just to remind everyone the present government only has a few (16 I think) votes majority in the House of Commons.

There are many more “Leavers” among the Tory party MP:s, so if May decides to break her promise regarding the referendum and BREXIT, she can be thrown out by the real eurosceptics at any time.

I truly fear the referendum will be ignored...I think the elites are going to try to keep admittance to the EU.

She’s big on gay marriage.
In a statement, Mrs May said: “When I launched my campaign for the leadership I set out my belief in building a country that works for everyone. Central to that vision is a commitment to equality, and I will always stand up for the rights of LGBT people.
“I supported Civil Partnerships in 2004, and was proud to sponsor the legislation that introduced full marriage equality in 2013 because I believe marriage should be for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation.”

I certainly don’t have all the facts...but isn’t this the same Theresa May that per dozens of Daily Mail articles in the past years as Home Secretary failed to kick out even one of the many thousands of hard-core criminals from, uh, the usual places...? Always shifting the blame elsewhere?

She’s just keeping the seat warm for Sadiq Khan.

Sadiq Kahn is Labour.
