A resolution passed by The National PTA at its 2016 Annual Convention & Expo in Orlando last weekend calls for explicit federal statutory protections for gay and transgender individuals in addition to those that currently address discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, [and] disability.
The National PTA supports legislation that specifically recognizes LGBTQ as a protected group and addresses discrimination based upon sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, according to the resolution, which is entitled Recognition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) Individuals as a Protected Class.
A protected class is a group of people with common characteristics who are legally protected from discrimination under federal and state laws.
The resolution, which originated in Burbank, California, directs PTA leaders to encourage states and school districts to incorporate inclusive policies and practices that create and maintain safe learning environments for all students.
It also calls for the creation of updated health education standards that deal with the issues of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
Such standards should incorporate age-appropriate, medically accurate and culturally sensitive information on LGBTQ issues into existing health and other appropriate curricula, the resolution states.
The non-profit group, which calls itself the nations oldest and largest child advocacy association, is encouraging state, councils and local units nationwide to review district and school policies that address bullying and support revisions and amendments to these policies that specifically discuss sexual orientation and gender identification/expression as they relate to harassment and discrimination.
"National PTA delegates have taken a stand to push for policies and protections for LGBTQ youth to make sure they have positive school experiences, said National PTA president Laura Bay.
According to the groups website, all resolutions were brought forward to National PTA for consideration in the fall of 2015, and were then reviewed and passed by National PTAs Resolutions Committee and the National PTA Board of Directors.
STRAIGHT LIVES MATTER
I have a better idea. Let’s get rid of all the “protected classes” and “special status” groups and put a bunch of employment litigation lawyers out of business.
Why tolerating aberration is wrong in the first place. The next step is affirmative action for homosexuals.
This just wrote it’s own “Benny Hill” comedy skit.
Can’t do that. Too many are politicians or politician partners in legal firms.
what’s with the “Q” being added to “LGBT”????
Q as in questioning??? But we are told that they are born that way. Lady Gag even sang a hit song on that very subject.
So if the liberals have decided that gays are born that way, how the heck can someone be one who is questioning about their orientation??? If you are born that way, there can be no question.
How do the liberals deal with this obvious contradiction in their thinking???
It’s not about “protecting” them, it’s about enforcing compliance with the required agenda.
Protect everybody from the eeeevil white man. Barf.
The Dallas Killer was into sniffing women’s panties... how about a ‘protected class standing’ for that group?
In Oklahoma,..”Q” is for Queer
“...A protected class is a group of people with common characteristics who are legally protected from discrimination under federal and state laws...”
How stupid can they get????
Isn’t EVERYONE protected from discrimination by federal and state law????????
I am sure that parents who attend PTA meetings were just clamoring for this. /SARCsarcsarcsarc
Wow, I am gonna say I’m queer and get a bunch of benefits!
The left has taken over virtually every damned institution.
Someday this country will just grind to a halt.
I think the point was, = doesn’t the “L” and the “G” already cover that category? Or do we need to break it down to yet more miniscule criteria so we know who likes it on top? /s
Given the terribly destructive effects of the homosexual lifestyle, you would think that the homosexuals themselves, out of spiritual love for their fellow man/women, would do everything in their power to dissuade someone who is unsure of themselves from taking that course of self-destruction.
Straight conservative Christian Caucasians should demand super duper extra special rights.
But the Constitution requires us to have “protected classes.” It’s right in there with abortion-on-demand and unisex bathrooms.
It is time for the National PTA to disband in disgrace for supporting deviant behavior and pretending that treatable mental disorders are normal.
The National PTA should face charges for failure to use common sense in connection with the risks to mental and physical health associated with an insane, counterproductive policy.
