Apologies for focusing on that one issue, but it is something that the Right needs to be very careful about. We shouldn't use the talking points of the left, and the main 'soft' talking point they have is the 'why' argument. Why does someone need a repeating rifle? Why does anyone need a magazine that holds more than ten rounds? Why does anyone need more than one firearm? Why does anyone need to own a gun without it being licensed? Why does anyone need hollow point bullets? Why does anyone need a firearm without proving their need for it?
I am a licensed firearms holder in a country where you have to show a NEED (primarily either wealth, or danger), and I can tell you America does not want to have to show a 'need' for firearms. That is what happens around the world, and it is the greatest 'soft' talking point for the gun-grabbing left.
As long as someone does not have a felony crime record, they should be able to own a firearm - even if they are merely a lowly cook.

I wasn’t slighting his job. I just honestly had a misunderstanding of carry permits. I thought a person had to have reason such as their job put them at risk or something of that nature.
I don’t have a carry permit and have never sought one but I did have a misunderstanding of the requirements.
No, it's a fair point -- and I was really surprised that someone posting on Free Republic asked that question.
I would expect that at Democratic Underground.
