No one can explain why government-forced higher prices to the American consumer attacks the core issues of why companies are fleeing the U.S.

The core causes of businesses leaving the U.S. are government-forced increases in costs to begin with. This is more of the same. Companies are fleeing this country because of federal government interference forcing higher costs of doing business from things like

- high taxes,

and unconstitutional things like

- federal minimum wage,

- suffocating regulations, and

- protection of unions.

When it came to the economy, Reagan said, "Government isn't the solution, government is the problem." Crowds cheered, there was dancing in the streets. Everybody loved it except of course for the Dems and a the GOP establishment. Those words are as true today as they ever were. Reagan also said, "The scariest words in the English language are, 'Hi I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'"

I love Trump but this is wrong-headed. Trump is trying to make government interference in the economy, the SOURCE of the problem, be the solution. Trump is saying essentially, "Hi I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

I hope Trump learns his lesson sooner than later. Government doesn't create jobs, it destroys jobs. What government does very well is coerce and kill. The best thing government can do about jobs is leave the market economy alone and let it do what it does best: create wealth, opportunity, and jobs. That is what the free market economy, freedom in action, is all about.

I’ll say it first - let the flaming begin.

But before you turn on your flame throwers, see if you can answer the first statement: explain why government-forced higher prices to the American consumer attacks the core issues of why companies are fleeing the U.S.

We need tariffs to protect American manufacturers.

Sorry but illegal subsidized dumping of imports has cost us American jobs.

If you like the low prices of Chinese-made goods, maybe you’re happy with that but I miss the days when stuff was made in the good ol’ USA.

Trump is on the right path.

I agree.

More manufacturing means more unions, and that means more elected democrats. Period. End of story.

Looked up the blue eagle program of the 1930s. It is views like yours that made the depression of the 30s into a Great Depression.

We should make more here and import less.

What a revolutionary idea! Not everything labeled a tax is necessarily bad.

There is no freedom of choice when you can’t buy American.

Some people are just happy with that.

Personally, I would like to remove the government overhead that is imposed on business in this country via excessive taxation and legislative burden from state, local and federal levels.

Then, attack unfair business practices from overseas industries with tariffs as needed.

We need tariffs to protect American manufacturers.

You mean, to punish American managements. :)

The manufacturers won't survive anyway without a whole lot of regulatory rollbacks and tax reductions.

It is the essence of Trump’s economic plan as he stated 1:07:30 into his speech. Why shouldn’t it be the headline?

It changes people’s buying behavior.

When imports are more expensive the price difference with domestic goods become inconsequential.

More people will buy domestic-made goods and this will benefit our economy.

The retail price didn’t drop when manufacturing was sourced offshore. If they want to pass along the increased cost of fair trade, then their sales will suffer and domestic competition will arise.

Because there’s other issues than just the ones that you chose to list. Currency manipulation, trade restrictions on American exports being two. Reagan restricted imports of heavy motorcycles, semiconductors and a number of other products to address Japan’s keiretsu oriented mercantile strategy.

Trump has already spoken of his intention to dramatically lower American business taxes and to slash the regulatory burden.

The current government constantly foists higher prices on us through extreme regulation. You rarely hear the RINOS making this big a stink about it. If Trump quits doing that the tariffs are likely to be a wash. A net plus if you factor in the additional tax revenue (provided he can rein in spending) and the US jobs that are restored.

We should make more here and import less.

A 1,000% tariff won't make a new factory magically spring up in Texas.

A 0% tariff would not have made the manufacturing go to Mexico unless the tax and regulatory environment was already odious.

Attacking symptoms fires up the troops, but does nothing to solve the problem.
