Having lived in the Twin Cities for ten years, I have found that the police in that area are incompetent and dangerous. With the exception of rural sheriffs departments, I have little respect for Minnesota law enforcement.
Now I’m back in Texas.

Dad was NYPD.....he as honest, hardworking and passed over. Had he been crooked he would have done well. Other cops I knew there, some in family, moved fast up the ladder. As far as incompetent? Many if not most (this is in The 50s and 60s) were competent but crooked. There was a dichotomy between catching crooks but also being one. They never saw the paradox or felt crooked themselves. They felt they were owed graft to supplement there salaries which was marginally middle class.
Reminds me of the tv mini series lonesome dove. They were captains in the Texas Rangers and hung their best friend for being found with criminals, but they thought nothing of going south of the border to steal horses and cattle. That was sport!
