Maybe, but it can be quite a bloody and miserable row to hoe until they do. But then remember that a good chunk of the world has been under Islamic domination for over a thousand years and realize Gandhi was a fool.
Gandhi had it easy. He was resisting a morally conscious British Empire on the down slide. A more tyrannical empirical power would have decimated them again and again until they gave up or became militarily strong enough to repulse them.
