Just my impression from reading Free Republic, I get the impression that nobody who has been mentioned as a VP candidate is good enough.

Or to look at another way, everybody who has been mentioned, people here cite shortcomings of that person, and that said person should be disqualified.

Just an observation. I will get behind whoever Trump picks. I hope others do the same.

I’ll vote for Trump in spite of the running mate if its folks like those mentioned in this story.

But I still won’t vote GOP the rest of the way down because they are all controlled by the elites and will not do what ‘We the People’ really want done.

So will I. Trump is a businessman who knows how to put a team together that gets positive results. This is his most important decision, and I trust that it will be well researched, well thought out, and make for an effective and reassuring team.

There's a complaint about everyone, that's for sure. Some suggestions, like Lyn' Ted, are about as absurd as they can get. Trump seems like a good judge of people, so I trust he'll someone not overly objectionable to too many people and someone that ads to the ticket and is prepared to be president if the need arises.

My choice among the names being tossed around are, first, Chris Christie, then Huckabee. Both are established governors that have shown leadership and legislative negotiation skills. Neither are mirrors of Trump, neither are going to please everyone, but they both add to Trump and are not their to usurp him. Gingrich and Sessions have other very important roles in the administration. No one else remotely seems to fit the bill for Trump in my opinion.

The balance rule does not apply here. Trump needs someone who knows the mechanics, and not somene who is left of center who can belie Trump’s appealto conservatives and anti-establishment types. He also needs someone who is not as old ( sorry Newt) but can be president if needed. both Ernest and Pence are sound choices. So is Sessions.

I agree. Anybody that Trump taps for VP will be a letdown for many. Many of us have this unrealistic ideal of a "perfect running mate" that cannot possibly be satisfied.

Like you I will get behind anybody that Trump chooses and I trust that he will choose wisely - though the wisdom of the choice may not be immediately apparent to us.

Jeff Sessions is the man.

I agree. Everyone has their pluses and minuses. Whomever Trump picks I will stand behind him.

There’s a lot that FReepers don’t know, and and what Trump is really thinking is one of them. He hasn’t turned to internet groups for advice yet and things have worked out pretty well.

The main reason people support a candidate is they trust the candidates judgement.

I will support Trump’s pick. But as much as I admire Newt, I hope he picks someone younger. Joni Ernst might be a very good choice.

Ernst, Cotton, Pence, Gingrich

I would have them in this order:

1. Cotton

2. Ernst

3. Gingrich

4. Pence

My keynote speaker at the convention would be Guiliani and then Gingrich. Guiliani is an outstanding inspirational speaker and Gingrich is an outstanding goal setter and a very fine speaker

Not if it’s a full-term Governor.

I will also get behind whomever Trump picks.

One name that I’ve not seen but I’ve posted a few times for consideration is Representative Jim Jordan(R-OH). He’s on the Benghazi committee, IIRC head of at least one other committee, conservative, fairly young, articulate, nice looking, and, as best I recall was considered by some to replace Boehner as Speaker (he sure would have been much better than Ryan, who has been terribly disappointing). Might also help bring in Ohio.

Just my $.02 FWIW
