Last year, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was serious about making one last bid for the White House. Only after realizing that Jeb Bush had already secured pledges from most of the top Republican donors did he decide to sit out the 2016 election. Of course, as it turned out, Bush – even with a reported $100 million war chest – could barely make a blip on the electoral radar. In the year of Donald Trump, the former Florida governor was just another victim.
Since then, Romney has become one of Trump’s biggest and most outspoken detractors. When the primary field had winnowed to three, Romney delivered a scathing speech attacking Trump, encouraging voters to support whichever alternative candidate had the best chance of winning in their state. Asked at the time if he might consider throwing his hat into the ring, though, he insisted that it was out of the question.
Romney hasn’t quite gone back on that assertion, but a new interview has many thinking that he’s leaving the door slightly cracked.
“My wife and kids wanted me to run again this time,” he said at the Aspen Ideas Festival last week. “I got an email from one of my sons yesterday saying, ‘You gotta get in, Dad – you gotta get it.'”
Would he? “The door is closed,” he maintained, “unless both candidates come to me and ask me to please save them. I think that’s unlikely. I can’t imagine the circumstances that would lead me to be in the race.”
Romney, of course, knows as well as anyone that he stands no chance of winning the presidency this year. As an independent, he probably wouldn’t even be able to get on enough state ballots to make a serious bid for the White House. And if the delegates revolt in Cleveland and nominate someone other than Trump, that someone will get trounced by Hillary Clinton.
In the meantime, he’s just another bitter Republican making it more difficult for the party to unite around the presumptive nominee. It was apparently not enough for him to personally cost the GOP an election; he wants to see to it that they lose in 2016 as well.
No doubt, Romney’s problems with Trump are heartfelt. No one’s suggesting that he put his concerns aside and endorse the New York billionaire.
But for God’s sake, put a lid on it. The voters have chosen. Deal with it.
Well...that may be the one thing he was right about.
Mitt, just stop. You are embarrassing yourself and your family. Nobody wants you to run. You would get schlonged like the rest. Accept what is and enjoy your life and family.
His family wants him to jump into the race because when he’s pestering America, he’s not pestering them. Besides, there’s no danger he’ll actually get elected.

Bullcrap! Romney should do exactly that - endorse Trump.
Hypocrisy is no surprise from politicians, but the anti-voter bias shown by Mitt is perilously close to a declaration of war on the voters who have supported Trump in an unprecedented fashion, against the collective will of the entire party "elite".
Ann Romney has said repeatedly she didn't want him to run the first time...this is his way of making people feel sorry for him...
He is a wolf in sheep's clothing, people here in Utah want him to go away and shut up, have said it many times on our local news...
Where he ever got the idea he was this great wonderful person is beyond us here in Utah, we can't stand him...
This is just his way of putting his nose in where it doesn't belong, and how now with 2 weeks until the convention with Trump having 1439 delegates and only needing 1237 delegates is he going to make it as the nominee? The Convention rules are being gone through this week, and as bad as Reince is, has said that Trump will be the nominee...so he is just blowing smoke...typical money hungry greedy power grabber, everything a MORMON is suppose to be against...

IMHO this essentially means that he is leaving the door open for a coup at the convention, at which point he would be ‘willing’ to ‘help them out’. Why he hates Trump is beyond me, but it seems to go well beyond policy and ideology. It seems personal.
And the foreign exchange student’s first four years can be attributed to the unpatriotic Juan McCain’s candidacy.
Neither can we Mitt. Butt out.
No narcissism there. Nope, not one smidgen.
Again, Romney is demonstrating that he does NOT have a mind of his own. He blew it big time when he ran against Obama.
Suggest that he take a time out and think about whether he is a Democrat or a Republican, and then take appropriate action.
That could well be the end result of Romney getting in.
This is one time you don’t listen to family, Mitt you jerk.
I’ll never forgive him for what he did last August.
And, as part of his effort to force everyone into government controlled healthcare he greatly increased regulations regarding 1099 contractors. In Massachusetts now it is very hard to hire skilled people who want to work unless you make them employees.
Yet another job killing, business stifling set of regulations created by a RINO to help his big business cronies.
What "BOTH" candidates is he talking about.... As far as am aware there is only one republican candidate... Trump.!!
Romney and his ilk care only for themselves and their stinking party.... For them, America comes second...

They are will to lose the election rather than allow someone who does not accept THEIR orthodoxy. Their vision of a Democrat-lite version of the Republican party.
