Senator: Navy Evaluates Commanders Based On Climate Change Views

Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse recently told people gathered in New York City that global warming “denial” hurts U.S. soldiers in the field and that the “main problem” with the military is its reluctance to join the climate crusade.

“The problem has been that the uniformed military has been reluctant to put its voice into – or its image into this fight,” Whitehouse said, according to a YouTube video posted Thursday.

[dcquiz] “But, it’s hard to put a panel of people in uniform in front of the Environmental and Public Works Committee and say, you know, I’m a general, I’m an Admiral, I’m the head of the Marine Corps, we’re telling you,” said Whitehouse, who sits on the Senate committee in question.

Whitehouse also claimed Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus is starting to evaluate commanders based on their knowledge of how global warming will impact the bases they command.

“What the Navy has done that’s been really interesting, Ray Mabus said he’s starting to actually evaluate his – you know, the military lives by evaluation – they’re starting to evaluate their base commanders on how well they communicate the risk of climate change about the base,” Whitehouse said.

“So, if you’re the base commander of Norfolk, or of Naval Station Newport, or of – what is it, Cherry Creek Marine Air Station in North Carolina – you are suddenly have on your checklist of what you’re evaluated on how well you’ve communicated what the risk of climate change is,” he said.

Obama has effectively ruined the military. It is a pathetic social playground for liberals. Gays, transgendered, front line female shock troops, and now global warming to take precedent over “defeat[ing] the enemy on the field of battle.” God forbid we have a real war. A lot of boys are going to die for this jenkem huffing coke head in the white house. But Obama is OK with that. He HATES this nation and our military.

Limiting free fire zones to 3 round burst spaced at 5 minute intervals so as not to heat up the firearms mechanisms thus adding to the atmospheric warming?

Yes, but at least he held the right views on climate change.

“I knew we were in trouble when the memo came down saying it wasn’t fair to evaluate Soldiers based on their performance in combat.”

“What do you evaluate a Soldier on?”

Evidently you evaluate him based on how he tiptoes through the tulips.

So, if the sea rises it should make the navy happy. Higher oceans mean more work fo ships.

I got an earful last month from a woman who I occasionally talk to about things military, and she informed me that the "force drawdown" is indeed using rather idiotic criteria on who to give the boot and who to retain. One of her soldier son's buddies who has been a good enough trooper to deploy to Afghanistan - more than once - in a rather dangerous MOS and get the job done was dropped because of a minor disciplinary incident that happened prior to his recent deployments. Apparently one can also get a career-ending negative eval that sticks because someone else overheard a non-PC remark about a gender issue.

What her son related to her about the Army's Human Resources Command is not repeatable here. If the good officers and senior NCOs aren't getting out on their own because they are fed up, they are being pushed.

Looked up info on this sinking of a USNS ship, the USNS Kilauea. Turns out it was sunk by a torpedo from the Australian submarine HMAS Farncomb on 24 July 2012 during a joint naval exercise RIMPAC 2012.

Inline with the topic of this thread, I find the following in the exercise description:

And for the first time, many of the American ships will be powered by a 50/50 biofuel blend of regular fuel oil and a select mixture of hydro-processed fuel derived from cooking oil and algae. The US Navy is reported to have bought some 425,000 gallons of this biofuel at a cost of $12 million for use in this year’s exercise, the largest single biofuel buy in history. Some aircraft are also expected to be fueled with an aviation-grade biofuel blend as well. The US Navy has invested considerable funds in emerging technologies using algae, recycled cooking oil, sugar, corn, and other staple crops to produce biofuels that could help reduce the Navy’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Imagine that photo when General Eisenhower is talking with the Rangers. “OK fellows. The only ones that have to get into the boats are the climate deniers. The rest of you that believe in GW can stay behind.”

It's democrats who hurt US soldiers who don't buy into their thuggery. It's not 'global warming'.. it's damn democrat lowlife thugs.

Anyone who thinks military promotion - at least in peacetime, and at least above a certain level - don’t have substantial political elements is extremely naive.

Everything I’ve ever read or heard about the subject demonstrates that virtually every appointment above Army/Marine/Air Force Lieutenant Colonel or Navy Commander has a political element. Meaning not just a “service politics - plays well with others” element, but an actual political element. While it’s not dominant at the Colonel/Navy Captain leve, it’s in play, and once there are stars in the equation it becomes increasing important as the number increases.

Think about the way that over a hundred general officers retired within a year or so after the Clintons took over in the early 1990s. Most of the general officers we fought the 2nd Gulf and Afghanistan wars with got their first stars under the Clintons. Even the “beloved” Petraeus, who is a liberal - any conservatives who thought he’d be a good candidate would have been profoundly disappointed in him.

And, now, most of the general officers who got stars under Bush II are out or almost out and almost all of the general officers, and the rising LTCs and Colonels/Commanders and Captains are all those who’ve spent most of their careers under Democrats. You think the officer corps hasn’t become much more liberal over the past 20 years?

Think again.

Now anytime I hear the name Sheldon, I think of this:

Harry: With whom did you have this great sex?

Sally: I’m not going to tell you that.

Harry: Fine, don’t tell me.

Sally: Sheldon.

Harry: Sheldon? No, no, you did not have great sex with Sheldon.

Sally: I did too.

Harry: No you didn’t. A Sheldon can do your income taxes, if you need a root canal, Sheldon’s your man... but humpin’ and pumpin’ is not Sheldon’s strong suit. It’s the name. ‘Do it to me Sheldon, you’re an animal Sheldon, ride me big Sheldon.’ Doesn’t work.

The extreme heat from Global Warming melts their makeup. When they wipe the sweaty makeup from their brow, it greases up their hands and makes it difficult to hold and shoot guns.

The pantyhose they now wear helps when they are in extreme cold, but their mascara freezes up and their eyes are stuck wide open and they go blind within a couple of hours.

I hate Obama’s country with a passion.

In 1965, I enlisted in the Army at age 17.5. There is no way I would enlist in todays military.
