News by definition is not positive. Positive stories don't sell. It has to be negative to generate interest to readers or viewers. That's the gist of what I was taught in Journalism Communications class in university.

People don't pull over to watch cars driving safely down the highway. But they will slow down and even stop, to rubber-neck an injury accident. It's just human nature.

I do think rubberneckers get a bad rap though. We are taught in driver’s ed to slow down in the vicinity of an accident. It makes it look like they’re gawking, but they’re mostly just being careful.
