They would not have needed to meet if the FBI had not decided to indict Clinton. The purpose of the meeting was to go over the strategy to overrule the FBI.
It could be that Obama has his ‘pick’ for the replacement individual and at the right time (a week or two after the Dem convention ends)...this would change a lot of things. How the Dem Party handles Hillary handing in the nomination would lead back to the executive committee. I suspect that Obama has had a chance to pick most of those members.
