Mutilated body washes up on Rio beach that is Olympics beach volleyball venue

Parts of a mutilated body have washed up on the sands of Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro just meters from where beach volleyball athletes will compete in the upcoming Olympics.

The discovery is the latest to unnerve the city as it grapples with rising crime, a recession and exhausted state finances at a time when it hoped to be celebrating the first Olympics ever held in South America.

It was unclear Wednesday afternoon what conditions may have led to the mutilated body but a policeman standing guard by a security perimeter confirmed its existence to Reuters.

Oh, I feel so sorry for those people. I believe the Olympics have never paid off the way people think they will. Taxpayers are left with giant white elephants.

And that country probably doesn’t need that now....

Logging off shortly...take care, FRiend. :)

yes, that is a dirty secret of Olympic games. The atmosphere in the Olympic village is like that of a college dorm, or spring break, or a single’s bar. There’s lots of down time for athletes at the Olympics, so they meet up and do what we are all guessing they do.

“Very sad to see the nation humiliated in this manner, I hope the reports I’m hearing are exaggerated.”

I agree. They did a good job with the World Cup in 2014.

These athletes deserve all the fun. I know quite a few and they have worked harder than in the gulag to get where they are. If they are of age I’m ok with some good times and great memories for them! I hope my guys will be safe down there.

I pray to Gd it is a successful Olympics with no bad things occurring. Just because an entity is corrupt doesn’t mean innocents should be destroyed. Shame on you. We are one of the most corrupt countries on the planet but most of us are good decent people and don’t deserve destruction.

This will change the mood when we're watching beach volleyball to look at the bodies.

About what I expected from a Third World country. The Olympic Committee should have known better.
