I wouldn’t underestimate them as you seem to imply. They nearly toppled the Syrian regime with its trained and well equipped armed forces. Syria has tanks, APCs, attack helicopters, bombers, chemical weapons (which they have used) and so on. Syrian president Assad’s father wiped out the entire village of Hama, 40,000 people in all, to put down the Muslim Brotherhood insurgency in 1982. But baby president Assad had to call in the Russians in 2015 for help (a foreign policy disaster on our part, fwiw) to regain the upper hand against ISIS.

It is hard to strike a convoy when it takes 48 hours for a target to be cleared by Centcom and the WH. ISIS knows that there is no such thing as a target of opportunity under our ROI’s.

It was Iraqi forces that attacked the convoy. Obama is just trying to take credit for action against ISIS after Ataturk bombing.
Did Colin Powell advise the President to stop the attack because it would make us look bad?
