Historian Meacham Says Dems Win ‘Intellectual’ Argument, Trump Wins ‘Emotional’ One
Legal Insurrection ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 06/29/2016 6:30:42 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

It’s the same kind of elitism expressed by Brexit opponents who are casting Leave people as ignorant, parochial hicks . . . On today’s Morning Joe, historian Jon Meacham disparaged Trump supporters as people who think with their “gut” instead of with their “head.”

After video rolled of Trump supporting waterboarding and saying we had to fight ISIS fire with fire, Meacham sniffed: “Democrats tend to seem to win the intellectual argument and Trump walks away with the emotional argument.” Really? What was the “intellectual argument” won by Hillary, Obama and other Dems on the Russian reset, “leading from behind,” the Syrian redline, the toppling of Gaddafi, the withdrawal of all troops from Iraq and the Iranian nuclear deal? How’s this for an “intellectual argument”? Take your patronizing, condescending, elitism and shove it.

View the video here.

Well, maybe it is relatively rare for them to use an emotional argument derived from anyplace higher than the groin area....

What the hell is Meacham talking about? Calling Republicans and British voters who voted to leave the EU racist is winning the intellectual argument? Blaming a gun instead of the Muslim terrorist who used it is winning the intellectual argument? Democrats staging a phony sit-in in Congress complete with bathroom breaks and catered food is winning the intellectual argument? Nothing being uttered from the mouths or written from the pens of lefties is the least bit appealing to an American’s intellect. It’s nothing but hate-filled, America bashing emotionalism at its worst they’re putting out there to the public.

he has it exactly backwards. democRATS think emotionally. the same as toddlers or most women (this is why liberalism appeals to women... it's all about feeeeeeeeeelings). sorry ladies of FR, but it's true and you know it. this is what explains the large gender gap between republicans and democRATS when it comes to women. this is why gay men are almost completely leftwingers. they think emotionally too. this is why i think there must be a small biological component to their "gayness". more estrogen than normal, less testosterone than normal. that's my guess.

in contrast, men tend to think more rationally. that's why there is a gender gap in favor of conservatives when it comes to men. a conservative argument tends to be a rational argument.

Trump argues that savages are invading our country. He argues that American jobs are disappearing to 3rd world countries. There’s plenty of non-emotional evidence that those arguments are true.

Emotional? Intellectual?

We are past that!

We are in the ‘instinct for self preservation’ phase. There's no 'warm fuzzies' or rationale involved at this point.

I guess, once we get to the next phase (every man for himself) - the Liberals will admit that they have been enabling our enemies all along.

Morning Jerk DemocRat sycophant making an idiotic statement. The reverse is the fact. DEMOCRATs and liberals use emotion. Conservatives use logic.

Hilarious comment considering the source.

I have met many liberals that espouse this same condescension and patronizing attitude toward ‘the little people’.

If you have a degree from some Ivy League or similar university, then that gives you the right to, apparently.

They are educated way beyond their intelligence................

Wrong again. The Left and Socialism always lose the debate to the true Right and Freedom in the forum of ideas.

Here’s THE intellectual argument that Hillary and the Dems lose:

The so-called elites in government and business have dragged us, kicking and screaming, into the world of open borders, “free-trade” agreements and globalization. For all of us in the First World (well, other than the governmental and business elites, that is), this has been a net negative. We have been exporting jobs to 3rd World (Turd World, as I refer to them) hellholes with few or any laws regarding worker safety or the preservation of the environment, while importing literally millions of people over the years who not only don’t fit in to our country on a cultural, educational or professional level, the DON’T WANT TO FIT INTO OUR SOCIETY. A high percentage of these people end up on some form of welfare and pay little or nothing in taxes (likely the only taxes they pay are sales and excise taxes for buying things, which no one can avoid), sucking up resources that more properly and morally should be used for people born here. Many of them (certainly a higher percentage than in the past) have brought with them diseases that are either new to this country, or which had previously been eradicated here at no small expense. Many of them (certainly a higher percentage than in the past) engage in criminal behavior, thereby further victimizing the native population (just ask Kate Steinle’s family, among many others). To this, we can add victims of terrorism that has been committed by either direct immigrants or the children of immigrants who came here with exactly zero intention of integrating themselves or their kids into our society, as virtually all immigrants prior to the 1970s did (in this case, the prime example is the son of Afghan immigrants who perpetrated the Pulse nightclub mass murder).

Hillary Clinton and the Dems have turned a deaf ear to the concerns and complaints of the general population (i.e. tax slaves) regarding job losses, incredible expenditures on immigrants, crime and medical/disease issues caused by these immigrants.

Hillary Clinton and the Dems will not merely retain the status quo on globalization and all related sub-issues, but they will accelerate them.

THESE are the facts, THESE comprise the intellectual argument against Hillary Clinton and the Dems. Note that I have left out any analysis of the unwillingness of Hillary Clinton and the Dems to lower taxes (they want to increase them), lessen regulations (they want to increase them), their desire to eliminate or emasculate the 2nd Amendment, their unwillingness to allow for the exploration or use of domestically-produced fossil fuels, which we have in incredible quantities, their unwillingness to propose any serious plan to balance the federal budget and pay back any of our enormous debt, and their use of the federal courts to undermine the will of the People, as expressed through Congress.

ALL of these issues, and many others that I haven’t mentioned, comprise the intellectual argument against Hillary Clinton and the Dems.

IMHO, the writer of this article has things exactly backwards: those supporting Hillary Clinton and the Dems are doing so in spite of the facts - they are doing so on an emotional basis. Of course, if you mention this during a discussion or argument with a Dem/liberal/Leftist, they will often times become incredibly enraged, sometimes to the point of violence (thus proving your point, of course).

Bottom line: this article is garbage.

Liberals and leftists always frame the positions like that. They’re a very self satisfied breed.

“the writer of this article has things exactly backwards”

Just to clarify: I am the writer of the article—governs=Finkelstein. I was not saying that Dems win the intellectual argument and Trump the emotional one. I was quoting Meacham to that effect. Far from supporting Meacham, I wrote that he should “shove” his argument.

Thanks. Since you had written that the “article” had things backwards and was “garbage,” and Meacham had not written an article, it wasn’t clear to me. Appreciate your clarification.

Meacham has a degree in English Literature and is an editor for a public TV station. What makes him a historian?

The term: Bass-ackwards” comes to mind. Owebowma reflects the retardation of emotions. People voted for the man because he had dark skin, period. It made many people fee good emotionally. Intellectually the man is a fool.
