THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) is about to be rocked by a “political tsunami” with right-wing parties across the continent calling for dozens of in-out referendums.
A study by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) revealed so-called extreme “insurgent parties” are calling for a total of 34 public votes - with matters ranging from their countries’ membership of the EU to refugee policy.
The ECFR report blamed Europe’s fear of Turkey joining the EU and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s “refugees welcome” policy as major reasons behind a rapid rise in support for both right-wing and far-left, anti-EU parties and their attempts to take back control of their countries.
Mark Leonard of ECFR said: “Many of these insurgent parties have views on foreign policy that are closer to President Putin than President Obama.
"They are overturning an elite foreign policy consensus based on Atlanticism and liberal democracy that has dominated for the last fifty years.”
The report predicted political turmoil and calls for in-out EU votes in a number of countries, in what it said would be a “political earthquake”.
ECFR said Brexit would particularly boost the French Front National party’s calls for a referendum. The far-right party’s leader Marine Le Pen Tweeted “victory for freedom!” in the aftermath of the Leave vote, before re-iterating her calls for a similar opportunity in France.
She said: “As I have been asking for years, we must now have the same referendum in France and EU countries.”
The report said the party “hopes Brexit will trigger the use of more referenda Europe-wide, and wants to have a referendum on taking France out of the eurozone” - a ‘Frexit’.
Other countries were also highlighted in the report as being likely locations for the next EU referendum, including the Netherlands.
The report said a ‘Nexit’ could be sparked due to the perception of “the inflow of refugees as a threat to national identity and the welfare state”.
The right-wing Dutch Party for Freedom is already calling for a referendum, with a poll this month showing that 54 per cent of citizens supported such an opportunity.
Despite being a founder member of the EU, party leader Geert Wilders has promised to make a referendum vote a priority in next spring’s elections - and the party is currently leading in the polls.
An ‘Italexit’ is also a possibility, with a survey revealing 48 per cent of Italians saying they would leave the EU if presented with a referendum.
The leader of the right-wing Northern League party Tweeted a celebratory message following last week’s Leave victory: “Long live the courage of free citizens!"
He added: “Heart, head and pride defeated lies, threats and blackmail. THANK YOU, UK, now it's our turn.”
Growing anti-EU campaigns in other states are also highlighted, including Austria, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Poland and Sweden.
Mr Leonard concluded in the ECFR report: “We can’t dismiss them as fringe parties – they represent a revolution in European foreign policy. Their chosen weapon is using referenda to whip up popular support on their pet issues.
“Even where they don’t win power directly, they are so politically powerful that they are forcing mainstream parties to adopt their positions.”
The growing discontent comes as the EU moves forward with plans to turn the bloc into a superstate.
Foreign ministers of France and Germany are plotting to unveil a blueprint to do away with individual states.
This would clear the way for an EU Army, which Eurocrats have long supported.
EU president Jean-Claude Juncker today spoke to the European Parliament over Brexit.
The Brussels chief said: “I respect what the British people have said, and I would like to be respected.
“But we have got to see some consequences.
“I don’t think we should condone shadow boxing or cat and mouse games.
“It is clear what the British people want and we should act accordingly.”
Yeah, sure.
Declining standard of living, having your life micromanaged by the faculty club in Brussels, tens of thousands of cutthroat thugs being brought to your town to rape your wives and daughters and there's nothing you can do about it, watching bigger and bigger pieces of your paycheck go to pay for cushy layabout lifestyles in countries with no fiscal discipline, no right to control the borders of your country.

I saw another article posted that says the EU has been a failure in terms of what it was expected to deliver when it was formed nearly 23 years ago.
I prefer pirates. Piracy is a very accurate way to describe a huge component of their rich cultural history. Actually , the only richness they ever attained was by raiding productive societies. So , anyways between the sea and the land, piracy is piracy... all embraced in the word jihad.

We are all eagerly awaiting that day. I already have champagne ready in anticipation.
Other assumptions appear to be challenged as well: first that the experiment in federalism in Europe would result in an unelected, irresponsible, arrogant ruling class and that everyone would be happy about that, second, that the culture of the continent was infinitely malleable at the whim of said ruling class and that everyone would be happy about it, and third, that the accession to power of that ruling class was permanent, unquestionable, and immovable. Could be some of that needs a reconsideration. Could be it's going to get one whether the ruling class like it or not.
While references to "far-right" groups are common, I don't think I've ever seen a reference to the "far-left" before. Ever.
Should we call it The European Spring? Or should we call it FUXIT?

If you go back to the mid-1970s....and wrote down the 25 best things that the EU could do....well, they’ve done those 25 things. In fact, they probably wrapped up that list about six to ten years ago.
So presently, they are on a list of things which don’t really have much support....yet they have to do something to show their existence....hence the reason they want to regulate the size of bananas, hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, toasters, etc. They also get into vast long debates about saving Greece....over and over and over. Or they get into debates about how to get the Ukraine into the EU in a way that would absolutely irk Putin and Russia. Or they invent 99 different ways to retool their military outside of NATO and hopefully dissolve NATO without people realizing it. Or they get into comical immigration debates and insist that hundreds of million of immigrants could arrive in Europe and each of the 28 countries could accept their “fair share”.
751 representatives sitting there and none of them report back to their country’s Prime Minister or their Parliament. You can ask any German to name some of their MP’s at the EU, and other than the chief of the delegation...no one can name a single guy. Elections every five years.....but when you vote...it’s for a party, not a named individual.
The sad thing is that they need some type of mechanism to keep the twenty-odd things working in some order. It’s nice to have one single currency. It’s nice to cross borders without having to wait 45 minutes in some line. It’s nice to have railway travel perform in an efficient manner. I’d hate to see a total reversal. But the EU has demonstrated one key thing over the past year....absolute refusal to reform itself. That’s a bad sign.
