German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday that the EU could survive a Brexit and warned Britain the union would not tolerate “cherry-picking” in upcoming negotiations on their future relations.

“The EU is strong enough to withstand Britain’s withdrawal,” she told the German parliament ahead of a crisis summit of the 28 member states in Brussels. […]

“We will ensure there are no negotiations based on the principle of cherry-picking,” she said to applause. “There must be and will be a noticeable difference between whether a country wants to be a member of the European Union family or not.”

She added: “Anyone wishing to leave this family cannot expect to lose all the obligations but keep the privileges. This applies to Britain as it does to everyone else.” …

“would be a tough pill to swallow, but Britain should stop all trade with the EU, and wait for them to come begging, hat in hand.”

The U.K. imports 60% of their food.

They may want to keep importing food.

Merkel’s true colors emerging

She's obviously mad about it, but she does have a point. In or out, not both. If Britain is going to invoke Article 50 then they should do it sooner rather than later.

Merkel instructs Britain on how the EU works.

I liked Merkel...for years....until she pushed the Islam thing on her countrymen and a few more errors.

And this ganging up on the UK...stinks. I no longer think of her as an honest broker.

Thatcher said the EU was a mistake and would fail.

Food can be sourced from Russia these days, esp with the EU trade restrictions in place.

Maybe having an ally on the other side of the EU would come in handy to the Brits.

Merkel is just about the worst thing to happen to Germany since 1933.

“We will ensure there are no negotiations based on the principle of cherry-picking,” she said to applause.

Now, now. Applause is triggering. In the European Reich, they signal their approval in more creative ways.

Just who do you think you are kidding, Mr. Merkel

This is probably a silly question-but why doesn’t the UK grow and raise more of their own food? History says they provided for themselves in the past...

They don’t import all that food from the EU right now (its estimated that 25% of their food comes from the EU), and there are other food exporting nations.

And this is a two way street. Merkel threatens Britain...Britain threatens to quit trading with the EU...maybe some of their biggest food supplying nations decide its time they leave the EU, unless Merkel is more cooperative.

This divorce will take 2 years. Britain can either let itself become the whipping post of the EU masters, or it can negotiate from a position of strength - which they have time to do.

Tell Merkel that England doesn’t listen to demands from Kraut goosesteppers.

It seems to me Britain needs a handful of great negotiators.

If I were English Banks and the politicos, I'd start deregulating and make London the best international banking capitol in the world.

Russia has a food surplus these days, and their exports are being restricted by the EU.

The US will side with the one worlder EU, not the independent minded Brits. 0bama already said the Brits must go to the back of the bus.

Obama will be out of office in 204 days. Article 50 has not been filed yet.
