Okay then, did the officer sign for the weapon, or was it “his” once it was issued? I don’t see an agency just giving away $600 weapons anytime somebody joins the force.

This goes to show, given the lost weapons are in the hundreds, that gun control would in no way reduce the minority of criminals’ access to weapons

All that don’t matter. Once again, she can say anything. She could simply deny it.

Perhaps the police should try out that smart gun technology...for the children and all.

Different story. The former deputy will probably pay for the cost and that will it.

And what would have happened if it was found in a homicide and still unreported?

For some fun reading go to the original article and access the related articles. There is a breakdown of the missing 944 guns by agency. Pay attention to Oakland and the CHP losses. Oakland by it self accounts for 378 of the listed missing. A whopping 40%. The CHP is also cavalier with some exotic weaponry ie: M16’s etc.

Was it his personal property and did he violate any laws selling it?

Was his wife arrested for stealing a firearm?

I know that you or I would be in a world of hurt. Full disclosure: I am a cop. And I would be looking at dismissal plus whatever the local prosecutor was willing to throw at me. Different state.

Isn't Gavin Newsom pushing a bill that would make the victim of a gun theft a criminal for not reporting the loss within a fixed number of days?

I don’t think you’d be trusted to make them. But, do you think you could fry them if we brought you some frozen ones? There was apolice chief in Oregon that lost his pistol. After he was removed, it turned up in a locked filing cabinet.

Seems that the authorities in SF have trouble holding on to their firearms. Maybe they needs strings going up their sleeve like little kids have for their mittens.

Take that “assault rifle” that Troy uses to shoot alligators. That’ll stop all the trouble.
