WBT ^ | 6/28/2016

The man who played the 2,000 Year-Old Man has gotten one year closer: comedy legend Mel Brooks is 90 today.

Born Melvin James Kaminsky in Brooklyn, NY, Brooks started as a writer on Your Show of Shows. Brooks and another comedy icon, Carl Reiner first met in 1950. They delighted audiences and inspired a generation of comedians like Jerry Seinfeld and others with the improvised sketch about a really old man who has seen it all, as well as other now-famous bits.

‘Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die.’ - Mel Brooks

A great audio post from Mike Rowe about Mel’s days in the army.

Side note: It’s a shame movies like Blazing Saddles or History of the World Part 1 probably could not be made in today’s “polite” society.

You’ve dished up so much garbage to entertain the tattooed masses that we can’t stop thanking you.

He just had his hand and foot prints added at Mann’s Chinese Theater last year. He had a prosthetic finger added to one of his hands for the imprint.

Sadly he would not be able to make the movies he did in today’s whiney pc world.

Happy birthday, Mel! One of the greatest!

Thank goodness I captured the unexpurgated “Blazing Saddles” when I still had HBO. The PC version has horses whinnying in the campfire scene, and “reggin” is completely purged.

Didja catch that last one?

Pretty soon, uncensored versions of Blazing Saddles will be as hard to find as “Song of the South.”

Young Frankenstein was a masterpiece. I saw it 5 times while it was still in the theater.

I believe a close friend of his, Carl Reiner, is still alive even today. Those two created some great comedic works from the 1950’s to 1980’s.
