94-year-old Nazi appeals sentence

Following the sentencing of 94-year-old Reinhold Hanning to 5 years in prison for his part in the murder of 170,000 Jews in the Holocaust, his lawyers have announced that they will appeal the sentence. The prosecution, representing Holocaust victims, will also appeal the leniency of the sentence.

Hanning was convicted 10 days ago by a court in Detmold, Germany, for aiding the murder of 170,000 inmates at Aushwitz-Birkenau.

The judges in the case found that Hanning worked as a guard in the German extermination camp on Polish soil in the years 1941-1944, while being involved in the deaths of 170,000 camp prisoners, most of them Jews.

Despite his advanced age, the judges decided to send him to prison for 5 years for his crimes. His lawyers are looking to have the sentence reduced or revoked, presumably on account of his age and fragile health.

I'd sentence him to 30 seconds in front of a firing squad.

He was 18-22 during the war. He was in no position of authority, he was just there.

Here comes the “Let it go already!” crowd. .................. LOL, there can’t be too many of these guys left, what happens when there are no more, are we going after the ones who ran the gulags, and who killed 10,000 officers and intellectuals in Poland? Yeah, those nasty Germans deserve to be hung or shot, but why have those nasty progressive Communists been given a free pass? Not even a peep from the media? The Turks killed over 1 Million Armenians, they get more press coverage than the 25 Million Russians? I wonder, why is that? When it comes to the atrocities committed by the Stalinist’s, it gets washed aside.

Maybe we should dig up dead Nazis and violate their bodies, or better yet, let’s execute the descendant of Nazis.

Then everything will be alright in the universe.

F-ck him. He had a choice, yet chose to participate in a hideous atrocity. Let him serve the rest of his life in jail, whether its for a week or for 10 years.

I repeat, F-CK HIM!

I’m not sure that you can punish someone who has already had 71 years for freedom.

Sure, you could execute him, but you are not depriving him of anything but a few more days at the end of a life in a worn out body, and a mind not at the top.

When it comes to the atrocities committed by the Stalinist’s, it gets washed aside.

American "liberals" are communists. Therefore they ignore the democide and genocide that communists commit. Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot (for example) get a pass because communists protect each other.

Communists and National Socialists hate(d) each other because bloodthirsty totalitarian tyrants don't like competition. This is also the reason for communists promoting the false association between the National Socialists and the "right wing".

Yeah, because there are only a few left, that erases their crime. Oh, and “LOL” - really? It is clear to me that you never had the privilege of speaking with someone who had numbers on their arm about their experiences. Too bad that there aren’t many of them left, either.

“what happens when there are no more, are we going after the ones who ran the gulags, and who killed 10,000 officers and intellectuals in Poland?”

I don’t recall anyone on this thread saying to give a pass to Soviet atrocities. Also, why wait - we can prosecute old NKVD assholes at the same time as we prosecute old Nazi assholes.

I’ll settle for an actual, active perp, regardless of the fact that he evaded justice long enough to become old.

No, just prosecute the ones that are alive - let them face SOME measure of justice in this world. When they meet their Maker, then He can decide what to do with their souls - but we have an obligation to ourselves, to the victims and to the future to NOT let these bastards get away scot-free with some of the most hideous crimes ever committed.

BTW, that’s an “interesting” notion that you have about violating dead bodies.

This SOB needs to be punished. Not so much because a few days, weeks, months or a couple of years will make up for what he did (it won’t), but so that every other person who even thinks about doing something of like kind in the future will know that the rest of the world DOES care, and WILL hunt them down even when they are old bastards. It is much more about deterring the same thing from happening again, and less about actual punishment.
