Dennis Prager used to say that the left's goal was "equality." He seems to have recovered from that illusion.
“The left loves power, not people.
Repeat: The left loves power, not people.
If that is not understood, the left is not understood.”
The issue isn’t that the Left hates referendums. It is that this one didn’t go their way. They’d be happy with the results of a “revote” referendum if they could get one and they won.
After all, it is the Left that is pushing the “National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.” If you didn’t know please Google it. Under this arrangement, which has passed in a number of states, the states who are part of it would throw all of their electoral college votes to the candidate with the most votes nationally.
It would completely undo the whole electoral scheme, and give enormous power to the last cheating district standing. It would lead to an explosion in cheating in the voting process, and endless recounts. And, it would turn the Presidential election into a one-shot referendum.
You can bet that if this were passed, the Leftist governments of the states in the compact would only follow it when it was to their advantage. And, you can bet that this patently unconstituional arrangement would be ratified by the Supreme Court if Hillary gets a few judges appointed.
The peasants are SO stupid, why even allow them a voice? They obviously don’t know what’s best for themselves.
Brilliant article, in Prager’s concise and level-headed style.
Maine has 5 leftist referendums on the ballot this November. When they controlled the govt, they decried the use of referendums by the party out of power. Our mantra will be just vote no.
Hitler, Stalin, Il Duce, Mao, Ho, Pol Pot...it’s happening right here right before our eyes. Whatever made us think it couldn’t?
For myself, meanwhile, with a Polish wife and a half-Polish son, this sort of thing is currently worrying me, even though I voted Leave...
My wife has been a British citizen since 2000, but she has a definite Polish accent and speaks Polish to friends on her mobile phone.
Polish community centre is vandalised with graffiti
In the latter link - the Polish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith has been there since the 1960s, with never a hint of trouble. Something has changed.
They’re referenda.
Beware, the tyranny of the majority.
It’s something they thought through over 100 years ago. Today’s lefties/progressives are very much about power like the article says but there’s also theory behind it.
“Progressivism” was a theory wants to speed up the “evolution of society”. On it’s own society will keep improving (evolving) at a slow pace. But, if “the right people” are in control they can speed up the evolution by forcing people to do “the right things”. People will of course be against this - until they see the wonderful results. If we let people decide things (e.g. referendums) then “the right people” will not be able to speed along the evolution of society.
