Pepsi To Bring Back Aspartame-Sweetened Diet Pepsi By September
Consumerist ^ | June 27, 2016

Weeks after it was rumored that continued falling sales would propel PepsiCo to once again change the sweetener used in its main calorie-free beverage, Diet Pepsi, back to aspartame, the company announced plans to do just that Monday. PepsiCo said Monday that it would reintroduce aspartame-sweetened Diet Pepsi in September, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Despite reintroducing the aspartame-sweetened beverage, PepsiCo says it will continue to sell a version sweetened with a blend of sucralose (Splenda) and acesulfame potassium (branded as “Ace K”) that began to appear on shelves last summer.

Nope. Pepsi with REAL SUGAR is the best thing going. No HFCS.

Aspartame can literally make you blind.

If you use it as eye drops???

In our area (San Diego County) many stores and some cafes have pepsi with real sugar. Bottled in Mexico. Marys Coast Hwy o-side

And all this time I thought they were caused by peripheral neuropathy.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.

In 2000, the line was reformulated yet again, this time to replace aspartame with Splenda brand sucralose and Sunett brand Acesulfame potassium. It became the first major diet soda in the United States to use neither aspartame nor saccharin as a sweetener.

There is no disagreement here. There is just one fact. It doesn’t effect insulin levels (blood sugar). Aspertame is an old thoroughly studied sugar substitute. It’s even been studied for it’s considerable placebo effect. I’m not diabetic because I control it by diet. Aspertame is not a problem for me and those like me.

BTW , if you mean it promotes diabetes because some people stupidly think they can eat more junk if they drink diet sodas than yes it does.

It doesn't effect insulin levels (blood sugar).

Not in my work and study. My background is test engineering, and I found that some people of a particular genetic pre-disposition, Aspartame DOES very much affect blood sugar. The blood sugar goes up dramatically and STAYS UP no matter how much one exercises or takes insulin. It takes days for these poor people to purge the Aspartame from their system. Now, if they had raw honey - blood sugar would spike, but would ultimately go down, because there is enough PURE sugar for the body to understand and process. The synthetic sugars are causing harm to some people, and promote diabetes.

I've always wondered what cyclamate flavored drinks tasted like.

Can you tell us?

I know that Tab with saccharin is the worst tasting soda ever.

Ah, wish I could drink that. It does bad things to the ol’ blood sugar. I can’t stand the corn syrup stuff. It has a cloying sweetness that is nasty.

Get some Mexican Coke. It tastes CORRECT! Just like it did when American and Canadian bottlers used SUGAR instead of HFCS.

HFCS, while technically and chemically identical, has a different taste. I find it’s kinda dusty after a sip.

If you ingest it.

It reduces to methanol, among other harmful things.

The only Pepsi I have liked in the past 25 years is with Splenda. But name brands are out of my grocery budget so I buy Laura Lynn Diet Cokes with Splenda. Great taste as good as a sugar sweetened coke. I can buy a 24 pack for under $6. It's the only drink besides Peak Tea that I like and when I buy Peak I buy unsweetened and add Splenda myself. If I added sugar I would gain weight like crazy because of how much I'd consume. They only thing about carbonated drinks is simply the fact it makes you want to eat more. As for Splenda it has Zero Calories, Zero Fat, and Zero Carbs. The munchies is what makes you crave due to carbonation that adds on the extra pounds. In that respect you have to watch what you snack on.

Any food from natural ones nothing added or on the other spectrum artificial sweeteners or processed foods all have the potential to cause an allergic or auto-immune triggered reaction in some persons. I had to give up processed meats such as any and all Bologna and some brands of hotdogs. I have to limit my amount of MSG also and meat tenderizers.

The plastic bottles are almost as good but come in two different sizes. The really small ones are a ripoff.

I think the bigger are 10-12 oz. Good luck.
