Pepsi To Bring Back Aspartame-Sweetened Diet Pepsi By September
Consumerist ^ | June 27, 2016

Weeks after it was rumored that continued falling sales would propel PepsiCo to once again change the sweetener used in its main calorie-free beverage, Diet Pepsi, back to aspartame, the company announced plans to do just that Monday. PepsiCo said Monday that it would reintroduce aspartame-sweetened Diet Pepsi in September, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Despite reintroducing the aspartame-sweetened beverage, PepsiCo says it will continue to sell a version sweetened with a blend of sucralose (Splenda) and acesulfame potassium (branded as “Ace K”) that began to appear on shelves last summer.

I've been avoiding Pepsi for years because of some crappy website design that wanted me to lower my privacy and antivirus sw to get it to function. I was mad because I bought Pepsi over whatever for that purchase based on their contest. Yes, a momentary lapse of judgement left me feeling used and abused by them.

Then an eschewing of soft drinks in general out of personal culinary preferences.

Oh, and do not forget Pepsi's anti-American president/CEO giving her speech at Columbia (iirc).

Pepsi may have done itself harm with a Superbowl ad that had a black chick throwing a can at white blonde chick. Diet Pepsi's main demo is black women, but the ad didn't do them any good, implying black men want white blondes, jealous black woman assaulting white woman, etc. Take your choice of what subliminal message Pepsi was really sending.

We have been going out of our way to make sure that no product with non-nutritive sweeteners are allowed into this house.

If you've become highly 'allergic' to them, like I am, stay away from anything ending in "-tol" - sorbitol/malitol, etc. too.

I used to drink diet Coke all the time in college (80's) then became highly allergic to it all of a sudden, can't even touch a smidgen of it or I'm in trouble. Going to restaurants 'can' be exciting....in a bad way.

Pepsi has been making it for about 2 years now. Google (or bing) “pepsi throwback”.

What I never understood was Sam Kennison walking on stage with a six pack of “Tab”!

Man that stuff was awful.

Since this is about an artificial sweetener, diabetics might have an issue with switching their sugar free soda to one that includes sugar.

Aspartame also promotes diabetes.

I use Stevia in my coffee and tea. It is made from the leaf of the Stevia plant. In fact I have to use half a packet, because it is so sweet.

From what I understand it is natural. I would love to see Dr Pepper or A&W Root Beer use it in their diet drinks, but alas I think they are stuck on the chemicals.

I remember having a sticker on my school notebook that said ban cyclamates. I had no idea what it was at the time. Not really.

I always drank real sodas,M with real sugar. Never got fat as a kid. Not really fat now. Just too many carbs from liquid bread. I try to compensate with red meat diet.

I know, I know, I’m gonna die!

They all taste like malted battery acid.

How would you (accurately) know what battery acid tastes like? Let me guess...you work(ed) in a warehouse with lots of forklifts!

Are you a dark haired middle aged female that works for a German conglomerate who makes frequent trips to New Mexico?

Whether there was Aspertame, or Splenda in the Caffeine-Free Diet Pepsi I drink, I still can’t find it on Walmart’s shelves here. They’re always out of it, and I have to get it at another grocery store.

Haven’t had a canned drink since sometime in the 1980’s

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Did you have to use a “church key” to open it? I believe they already had pop tops in the 80s though.

I’d bet not too many here under age 40 have ever heard of a church key.

No it doesn’t. Aspertame just tastes bad but it doesn’t do anything to your blood sugar levels.
