Can someone please explain to me how the EU, by controlling all of the member European countries, is any different than the old Soviet Union where central control was everything?

I see our own country and the nations of the world, starting to separate into two factions. The statists, globalists & totalitarians side versus the liberty, freedom & democracy side. Between those who want to control everything versus those who want to control their own destinies.
