Dem Party Platform Calls For Prosecuting Global Warming Skeptics
The Daily Caller ^ | 06/27/16 | Michael Bastasch

Democratic operatives responsible for creating their party’s platform this year have unanimously adopted a provision calling for the Department of Justice to investigate companies who disagree with Democrats on global warming science.

A panel of Democrats voted Friday to approve a final draft of the party’s platform to promote “Progressive Democratic Values,” which apparently includes investigating energy companies who “misled” shareholders about global warming.

“Another joint proposal calling on the Department of Justice to investigate alleged corporate fraud on the part of fossil fuel companies who have reportedly misled shareholders and the public on the scientific reality of climate change was also adopted by unanimous consent,” according to the Democratic National Convention’s website.

The drafting committee, led by DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, has decided to back ongoing investigations by mostly Democratic state attorneys general into ExxonMobil’s stance on global warming.

Currently, AGs from California, Massachusetts, New York and the U.S. Virgin Islands have launched investigations of Exxon, and at least two AGs have demanded records on conservative think tanks and scientists skeptical of global warming. Such targeting has only fueled calls that these investigations are an attack on free speech.

New York AG Eric Schneiderman was the first to launch an investigation into Exxon, based on reporting from eco-left wing reporters at InsideClimate News and Columbia University. Schneiderman hosted a conference in March with other AGs to announce more investigations into Exxon.

Republican lawmakers and AGs have pushed back, calling the investigations into Exxon and think tanks an assault on free speech.

Some Republican AGs recently warned their liberal counterparts that if skeptics can be investigated for misrepresenting global warming, alarmists can be as well.

The Republican Party Platform should also include a provision for prosecuting those who ‘mislead’ on the subject of Global Warming.

Focused on the Warmers lies.

I think the Dems want to re-educate the evil-doers first.

Welcome to North Korea.

I think the Republicans should try to prosecute the Democrats who wanted to investigate Democrats who insisted that “big oil” companies were vicious profiteers and fixed prices.

“Both scientists held the same theory that the Earth revolved around the sun, a theory now known to be true. However, the Church disapproved of this theory because the Holy Scriptures state that the Earth is at the center, not the Sun.”

No matter how many times this is brought up and debunked it continues to rear its ugly head. No, Galileo didn't get sanctioned by the Church for his heliocentric theories. The Bible doesn't actually teach that the Earth is at the center... although it was understood that way at the time. The Church fostered scientific inquiry and was not threatened by discovery. Heck, Copernicus was a Catholic cleric.

Galileo was sanctioned because he said his theory called the Bible into question.

From New Advent:

At the same time, it must not be forgotten that, while there was as yet no sufficient proof of the Copernican system, no objection was made to its being taught as an hypothesis which explained all phenomena in a simpler manner than the Ptolemaic, and might for all practical purposes be adopted by astronomers. What was objected to was the assertion that Copernicanism was in fact true, "which appears to contradict Scripture". It is clear, moreover, that the authors of the judgment themselves did not consider it to be absolutely final and irreversible, for Cardinal Bellarmine, the most influential member of the Sacred College, writing to Foscarini, after urging that he and Galileo should be content to show that their system explains all celestial phenomena — an unexceptional proposition, and one sufficient for all practical purposes — but should not categorically assert what seemed to contradict the Bible, thus continued:

"I say that if a real proof be found that the sun is fixed and does not revolve round the earth, but the earth round the sun, then it will be necessary, very carefully, to proceed to the explanation of the passages of Scripture which appear to be contrary, and we should rather say that we have misunderstood these than pronounce that to be false which is demonstrated."

Sounds like the Spanish Inquisition. Death to all nonbelievers.

Free Republic continues its downward slide with ignorant comments like yours. It used to be about a pursuit of truth rather than spouting uninformed propaganda. Very sad.

The Spanish Inquisition was instituted when the Catholic sovereign, Ferdinand, ascended the throne after nearly 800 years of Moorish rule (Muslims). He found that he was being confounded in reestablishing the Catholic monarchy by false Jewish and Muslim "converts" where were undermining his rule. He requested the Inquisition to root them out. Unfortunately, as so often happens in such political situations, the politics of the day worked their way into proceedings and the Inquisition went on for 500 years as a tool for political control rather than religious purity.

It was never about "death to all nonbelievers" regardless of Monty Python's portrayal.

First, they will come after us because we don't fall for the hoax of global warming.

Then it's not much a stretch to start prosecuting people because their political opinions differ from those of the demoCRAPS.

Slippery slope BIG TIME.

They really mean that they are going to prosecute anticommunism. Imagine that, we win the cold war and this is what we get.

This is one step away from investigating Christian churches for denying evolution.

And you take life way too seriously.

Maybe stating the obvious, and quoting you — the Inquisition was a tool of political control. Is the claim of AGW not a tool of POLITICAL CONTROL? And economic control as well?

I am surprised, considering that at your haughty level, you didn’t notice this fact.

And the kind of destruction to our livelihood that the left are proposing by a implementing Carbon tax is unpredictable. But it is a reasonable guess that it would create a hardship for the middle class.

Pot, meet kettle. Not so much fun when your ox is getting gored, is it? You are the one who made your post about "nonbelievers" and dragged the Church into it. If you meant it to be strictly about the politics of the Inquisition, you failed.
