I have a little nagging worry about Brexit. I wonder if the EU will react to their leaving their “More Perfect Union” as badly as Lincoln and the Federalist did in 1861.

As I've said in other threads, the EU doesn't have any military muscle of its own, no troops. Thus, the "Lincoln option" is off the table.

Germany isn't going try forcing the UK "back into the fold", on its own, either. To even attempt to do so would be expensive, with no real certain knowledge of success. Not a good investment for the banksters, and given the way the Bundeswehr is being run currently, all the UK would have to do is hold out until half-past teatime, then the German troops would cease operations, just as they did recently in a NATO exercise, to avoid paying the troops overtime pay (ain't unionization grand?)

Lincoln didn't have any real military muscle of his own either. He had a relatively small Regular Army, many members of which left to join the other side. What he did have was the support of the Northern States and volunteers from those States, without which the outcome of the War Between the States would have been different.

I don't disagree with the rest of your post though.
