WASHINGTON — Donald Trump has finally acknowledged that to best compete against Hillary Clinton he needs more than the bare-bones campaign team that led him to primary success. But many of the most experienced Republican political advisers aren’t willing to work for him.

While there are exceptions, many strategists who best understand the mechanics of presidential politics fear that taking a Trump paycheck might stain their resumes, spook other clients and even cause problems at home. They also are reluctant to devote months to a divisive candidate whose campaign has been plagued by infighting and disorganization.
“Right now I feel no obligation to lift a finger to help Donald Trump,” said Brent Swander, an Ohio-based operative who has coordinated nationwide logistics for Republican presidential campaigns dating to George W. Bush.
“Everything that we’re taught as children — not to bully, not to demean, to treat others with respect — everything we’re taught as children is the exact opposite of what the Republican nominee is doing. How do you work for somebody like that? What would I tell my family?” Swander said.

As in years past, the primary season created a pool of battle-tested staffers who worked for other candidates, from which Trump would be expected to draw. But hundreds of such aides have so far declined invitations to work for him.

Chris Wilson, a senior aide to Ted Cruz, said the Texas senator’s entire paid staff of more than 150 ignored encouragement from Trump’s team to apply for positions after Cruz quit the presidential race. Wilson said that even now, many unemployed Cruz aides are refusing to work for the man who called their former boss “Lyin’ Ted.”

That bears repeating. Romney's supposedly great system was totally useless. Even before their main servers crashed the Republican volunteers at the polling places could not keep up with the arriving voters because of the poor user interface design of the system. Depending on some brand new, never tested software system to work on the first time it is used for a critical task is a very poor strategic and tactical decision. No need to hire guys who think like that.
Instead, the Trump campaign needs to move towards a totally distributed approach - like we had in the old days. Simple things like volunteers who call their neighbors, and lists of local supporters. Forget distant call centers, annoying robocalls, complicated software, and most of the other ideas of the supposedly expert campaign managers. Use the best strategies from the left that worked in their get out the vote campaigns in 2008 and 2012, and add our own.
Freepers should develop our own get out the vote operation in support of conservative candidates and our constitutional rights in parallel with whatever the parties do.

Well stated! What many fail to realize is that the United States had a small skirmish in the early 1860s over whether a person can be required to work for another. It’s called involuntary servitude. There is a whole amendment (13th) that prevents it. Some call it slavery.
If they don’t want to work for Mr. Trump, then so be it. It is their blood earned right to refuse. Do I think good on them - probably not; but it is their choice and not mine, nor Mr. Trump’s.
It’s time to move on with campaign issues rather than attempting to belittle and shame individuals for full compliance with the prevailing ideology. Full compliance will never be obtained. Unless at the hands of force against free will.

We are seeing the realignment of the Parties, many Democrats will vote for Trump.

Trump has done this. He, like many of the rest of us, has wondered how a supposedly NBC of the US could suddenly learn at age 44 that he’s actually a NBC of Canada.
It's apparent to me that Trump will be following his 15 state strategy. Don't need much of an organization for that. If it works, it will be a new paradigm. If Hillary wins, that strategy will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

I concur. I’ve seen Dave W on thread after thread, bashing Trump and pointing out every perceived weakness he thinks Trump has. Each thread he’s on gets hijacked because he posts the same thing over and over, and the discussion gets taken over with his anti-Trump statements instead of the article.
It’s done more subtly than during the primary, to the formula of ‘I will vote for Trump but wish he’d be better on issue X’. No matter how many point out Trump’s good points or that issue X is doing better, he still sadly shakes his head, clucking that if only Trump was better...yada, yada.
IMO, this undermines the Trump campaign but more so makes being on a taken-over thread just as bad as during the primary fighting.

Absolutely. Sanders is selling out to Hillary right now, many of his supporters are going to realize just how corrupt politics is. They may have been fed bad leftist ideas for years, and unfortunately absorbed them, but for many young people realizing that the supposedly evil Republicans are actually willing to get in bed with Hillary, as Sanders will may lead them to either stay home, vote third party, or realize that Trump is more on their side than the Uniparty Democrats and RINOs.

I call BS on this. The “best” people may not be the best known people. There a lot of talented, loyal, available people that would be HAPPY to get a paycheck signed “Donald J Trump”!
Who is this reporter (Cruzer) fooling? Not I.
It’s like “whoever spends the most money wins”. Tell that to Governor Meg Whitman, Senator Michael Huffington, Presidential nominee Ted Cruz, Presidential nominee Jeb Bush, and Senator Linda McMahon.
I think many of the aforementioned candidates also had some of those “most experienced Republican political advisers” working for them. How embarrassing, after spending all that money and hiring all that “experience”, just to be dumped, by the voters, on to the ash heap of history.
Here these losers go again with “CONVENTIONAL wisdom” applying it to the most UN-conventional campaign in recent memory.

When Roosevelt ordered the D-Day invasion, did he actually engage in the planning and explain it all to the population?
Was Roosevelt an integral part of the Manhatten Project when he ordered it to be done? Could he have articulated it?
You may have the wonk temperament to get into the weeds on policy implementation, but I can assure you most voters do not.

I worked that campaign. It was well organized.

I am back and forth on “the polls”. I used to not believe polls showing my guy losing. Then Bill Clinton won as predicted. The straw I was grasping onto, Real Clear Politics website, had Bush winning or closing or tied in enough states to WIN. He didn’t. The actual results were 180 degrees out of phase. Clinton won all the close ones.
Which polls were to be believed?
You have to decide for yourselves, (with the help of FR) WHICH polls to believe. In today’s political climate, with Donald Trump as the presumptive nominee, I can believe that anti-Trump polls are deceptive at best and down right corrupt at least.
Our country is at stake. The uni-party is desperate to hang onto power. The media is desperate to hang onto power. The elites are desperate to hang onto power. And they all see it slipping away. It’s a “no holds barred” election. If they win, it will be the LAST election of our democracy.
Because of “political correctness” many people are reluctant to publicly admit to supporting Trump. I believe that in the privacy of the voting booth they will overwhelmingly vote Trump.
So here I am again, believing this poll while dismissing that poll based on whether I like the results.
I have convinced myself (again) that THIS election is different. Maybe so, maybe not. Like all past elections, we’ll have to wait for the actual (polls) to know for sure.
