George Will exits the GOP

Conservative columnist George Will told PJM he has officially left the Republican Party and urged conservatives not to support presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump even if it leads to a Democratic victory in the 2016 presidential election. Will, who writes for the Washington Post, acknowledged it is a “little too late” for the Republican Party to find a replacement for Trump but had a message for Republican voters.

“Make sure he loses. Grit their teeth for four years and win the White House,” Will said during an interview after his speech at a Federalist Society luncheon.

Will said he changed his voter registration this month from Republican to “unaffiliated” in the state of Maryland.

“This is not my party,” Will said during his speech at the event.

And what of the impact of helping elect Hillary Clinton as we “grit our teeth for four years,” as he puts it? What about the Supreme Court? He manages an answer for that question as well.

PJM asked Will about concerns among Republicans that a Hillary Clinton victory guarantees another liberal justice on the Supreme Court. In response, Will said a Republican president is not “the answer” to a conservative-leaning Supreme Court.

“Sure, but I’m also concerned with the fact that I do not really believe Republicans think clearly enough about what they really want in judges. Republicans have given us Earl Warren, Brennan, John Paul Stevens, Burger, who was kind of mediocre, Blackmun. Having a Republican president is not an answer in itself,” he said.

With all due respect to someone I have admired for a very long time, that’s got to be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard tumble out of George Will’s mouth.

It sounds like Trump made it difficult for Will to feel comfortable in his political “comfort zone”. Some people just are afraid of “change”. It’s time to boot the career politicians out of Washington. The status quo has got to go.

I used to respect Will’s opinion. It’s sad to watch him and a lot of other folks melt down to the point they actually become the enemy of what they used to profess to believe in.

Trump hit an absolute grand slam yesterday when addressing BrExit. He touched on five or so major issues and concepts that we absolutely see on to eye on.

He is a Republican. He is pushing good policy. He’s changing the Republican party. He is raising funds for it.

As long as the party changes, moves back in the direction we want it to, I’m okay with him raising funds for it.

Trump is the party at this point. Priebus and Ryan can wax rhapsodic if they like, but their days of wielding power and stripping the Republican party of everything it used to stand for, are done.

It’s morning in America, and there’s nothing they can do to stop the new day from take place.

"This is not my party," Will said during his speech..."

WHAT ???

Will's senile brain is really muddled. Right now "his party" is in the hands of the GOP elite which is doing everything it can to destroy the candidacy of Donald Trump.

Therefore, he should want to STAY in "his party" because the anti-Trumpers in charge are right in line with his thinking.

Leave if you will, Will...but at least give a coherent reason on your way out.

Liberalism is a mental disease, proven every day.

Since he doesn’t believe it ever mattered to have republicans pick Supreme Court Justices, I think it’s pretty clear he was never a republican.

I'm sure this will spell the end of the GOP as we know it, and that is a good thing. I guess he figures if Britain can do it, so can he. Shall we name these exits as the Wussyexit? Or perhaps the WhoCaresExit? YouWon'tBeMissedExit?

I'm just curious where he will. To the pot smoking Libertarian Party? To the anti-American Democrat Party? To the Green Party? Party of Socialism and Liberation? Peace & Freedom Party? Prohibition Party? Reform Party USA? Socialist Equality Party? Socialist Workers Party? Workers World Party? America's Party? American Freedom Party? Constitution Party? Populist Party? Pirate Party? In Connecticut) Absolute Dictator Party? Revolutionary Party? (Of course those two are only in California)

I know, Free World Party. Yeah that's the fit for him.

There are certainly lots of choices!!! Depending on where you live.

“Make sure he loses. Grit their teeth for four years and win the White House,”

Why can't he grit his teeth and try to win back the White House under Trump? Does he fear that Trump will do a better job, and it will be harder to win back the White House under Trump?

You know, if guys like George Will are exiting the GOP I may have to give it a second look. I exited it because guys like him were in charge— little fairy beta boys who scored high on the verbal section of the SAT and were confused by their mothers and teachers that words are equal to deeds.

Now the GOP has a guy who sucks with words but has built a successful real estate brand and works with his kids every day. And the poofs like George Will, Bill Kristoll and yes, Paul Ryan are incensed.
