Donald Trump has forgiven $50 million in loans he made to his campaign, and fundraising efforts have kicked into high gear, his national finance chairman told CNBC on Thursday.

"[Trump] loaned $50 million to the campaign. He's now forgiven that loan. So that is a contribution," said Steve Mnuchin. "[Trump] has also said he will contribute significantly more money."

"We just forgave the loan this week," Mnuchin added in a "Squawk Box" interview.

The New York tycoon and the Republican National Committee brought in about $18.6 million in May, including another loan from Trump. Clinton and the Democratic National Committee raised more than double that amount.

Just so we are clear. You try it. See how much PR that gets you. See how much that benefits you. Waiting.

If the loan is forgiven then campaign funds won’t need to be used to pay it back. Is there PR value and possible tax benefit to this? Yes, but it also means that donations will be used for the campaign, not for repayment of a loan.

If you’re saying that I, a private citizen, should compare my own results with a Presidential candidate then the only “waiting” you should be doing is for your head to get out of your a$$.

I’m saying if it works for Trump on one level, it will work for you on another. Let’s see it. Waiting . . . .

I actually think it is beyond the political comprehension of the Millennials I know to grasp that the loan forgiveness means an outright contribution from Trump.

The MSM is already trying to make hay out of the fact that Trump uses and pays for his own facilities for campaign events, as if there is something wrong with that...why wouldn’t he? If it helps him win, I’m all for it. Much better than Clinton taking illegal foreign donations.

We donated to Trump very early on last year. He has never sent us an email asking for money until yesterday; he went a whole year and defeated 16 other candidates without sending out a fundraising email.

We got on the list for Cruz and Clinton to see how they operate. The difference was huge and pretty disgusting really. The way they both groveled, pleaded and used goofy gimmicks and guilt tactics to pry money out of our hands was a clear picture of how different the candidates are. Cruz and now Clinton send us an average of 10-12 emails a week. They both used a $1 tease, I guess for people like us who have never donated, only to get to a page that does have a $1 button, instead starting at $10. Trump communications treat us with more respect and honesty, which tells you a lot about what a Trump presidency would be like; imagine that....respect for the people!

We have given four times to Trump and it feels better everytime. It makes you feel like you are really part of changing America for the better. Give the man 8 years with the SC judges that Trump would put up, the immigration, tax, military and regulatory changes he will put in place and our country will be greater for generations.

I just signed up for a small monthly contribution. They notify me the day before that it is coming out so I can stop if I want and always get a nice thank you note

That would be disastrous and beyond unfair for the rest of us who had to fund our own educations. Curious to see how strong the Millennial support really is for “free education”. I have to think there are at least some fair-minded young people who get it.

I received the same Trump campaign email yesterday.
I recall only informational emails until yesterday.
And I plan on donating, in spite of recent load of expenses in setting up a new home.

Trump didn’t “loan himself” anything. He loaned his personal money to a political campaign. He forgave the loan at a personal loss. I don’t see much gain for Trump, but some for the campaign.

And, he has said that he is personally funding his run.

At least he didn’t take contributions from Saudi Arabia, and many other middle eastern countries through a phony hedge fund foundation.
