The consequences of climate change on Boston are expected to be far more calamitous than previous studies have suggested, a new report commissioned by the city says.
In the worst-case scenario, sea levels could rise more than 10 feet by the end of the century — nearly twice what was previously predicted — plunging about 30 percent of Boston under water. Temperatures in 2070 could exceed 90 degrees for 90 days a year, compared with an average of 11 days now.
And changes in precipitation could mean a 50 percent decline in annual snowfall, punctuated by more frequent heavy storms such as nor’easters.
The report, by scientists from the University of Massachusetts and other local universities, has raised concerns in City Hall just two weeks after Mayor Martin J. Walsh attended a climate summit in Beijing.
“The updated climate projections confirm that we must work together to take bold approaches to prepare Boston for the impacts of climate change,” Walsh said in a statement.

Well, since the sea levels weren’t that high during the Medieval and Roman Warm Periods I don’t think there’s actually much to worry about.
Many of these people will still be going on about glowball warming even when the trumpets are being sounded and the bowls poured out. It’s a function of their false earth worshipping religion by now. Those that will not repent will die in this world and, perishing, never see it returned to a glorious state when The Lord makes all things new. Which is only right if they to their end have loved it more than Him and turned their backs on His salvation freely offered.
It IS BETTER, infinitely so, if people repent and it is much to be hoped for. When Paul listed off those who will not inherit the Kingdom he immediately followed it with “and such were some of you”. As it is said: with God all things are possible.
Still, whoever hopes for this present world trusts in folly. Whoever persist till their end hoping for this present world has drowned in their folly.
So therefore anyone owning real estate in Boston is putting it up at fire sale prices and even with that there are no buyers because who wants to own underwater property? Also there is no property insurance to be had at any price as what insurance company (or reinsurance company) wants to be on the hook for billions when the city is taken back by the ocean.
Oh wait ... none of these things are true? Either this article is total BS or there are a ton of people who are going to be taking a literal and a financial bath in the coming years.
They use satellites nowadays. The latest and greatest satellite to study ocean topography is the Jason 3 that launched last Dec.
The next big launch is with the ICESAT 2 in 2017. This is the one that the GOP is trying to shut down.
I wonder how much the difference in the amount of money they get in truth vs lies? It must be a huge difference because there are so many BS stories such as this one.
So I guess all those rich lefties should start moving inland leaving all that beachfront property at a discount for the rest of us.
If you ever get to Jamestown, visit the original site. Not the fancy museum. Some parts of the original fort are now underwater. Sea levels have been rising since at least the 1600’s. Actually ever since the inter glacial warm period began thousand of years ago. We are now right at about peak sea level height for this inter glacial period.
I hear you but...you’d need to account for possible tectonic plate movement. The posts may go up or down based on changes in the land. This is what makes these measurements much harder (and allow alarmists to take advantage of).
