No I’m an American citizen, now...

Unless you've officially renounced your British citizenship in accordance with their laws you're probably still British.US law allows for "dual citizenship" and I believe that Britain's does too.I'm eligible for Irish citizenship because my grandparents were born there.When I found this out I learned that I wouldn't lose my US citizenship.

My great grandparents were born in County Down..

That is my understanding. I also am a dual citizen, of UK and USA. My dad was in the military and I was born over there during the window to be eligible.
