Voting is under way in a historic referendum on whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union or leave. A record 46,499,537 people are entitled to take part, according to provisional figures from the Electoral Commission. Polling stations opened at 07:00 BST and will close at 22:00 BST. It is only the third nationwide referendum in UK history and comes after a four-month battle for votes between the Leave and Remain campaigns. In common with other broadcasters, the BBC is limited in what it can report while polls are open but you can follow the results as they come in across the BBC after polls close on Thursday evening.

I appreciate what you say but feel there is a world of difference between the two situations.
We won’t have another referendum for years - by then we will have been so diluted, and EU will have expanded in every way - it will be over for us, or at best generations of people will be confined to suffering.
True, there are more bets on leave - more money on remain hence the disparity.
Never been a fan of his, was nervous he was a plant - but can’t fault him in this campaign.

It's telling that in the lead up to the Referendum in the UK, a large part of the 'Remain' arguments have revolved almost solely around economics - because that's the domain in which the EU does make a lot of sense.
The question really is will people be prepared to accept the risk of short term economic pain to reassert sovereignty. I fear patriotism is far enough gone now that too many people won't be.

Those last two lines - there are too many people now to whom England doesn't mean much to them. Nor does Britain as a whole - but Welsh nationalism, and Scottish nationalism, and Irish nationalism are seen as much more defensible than English nationalism - and it's England that needs to stand up today.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves!
But how many people still see themselves as Britons?

The EU commission is doing what Napoleon, Hitler and others were unable to do militarily; conquer and subjugate the whole of Europe.

Yes. They certainly will - I actually believe it will be the end of the EU - and that can only be a good thing for western civilization.
No early indications - postal votes already account for 28% of population apparently, and aparently bodes well for leave. Will post updates as I find them.

In Australia we traditionalists and conservatives managed to hold the line in 1999, so it's the socialists and progressives who won't accept the verdict.
In the UK, it may have to be the other way around.
Maybe you won't win. Maybe this will be the end. But that's only true if you decide it is to begin with.
England has almost died time and time again. Britain has almost died time and time again. It has always come back.
But it it doesn't, on its own behalf, then I still think the EU will collapse in the end.
