I believe the reference is to the movie “Pearl Harbor” with Alec Baldwin playing Doolittle. Terrible movie. Only saving grace was Kate Beckinsale as the love interest. It also had the horrible Ben Affleck. Will never watch again.
It wasn’t a remake by title, but the 2001 film ‘Pearl Harbor’ contained a highly rescripted version of the Doolittle Raid with (choke-cough-puke) Alec Baldwin as Lt Colonel Jimmy Doolittle.
That lost me right there.

You are right, it was bad.
Not a Doolittle Raider but he did fight in China. I took this one around 1995 at a historical society meeting in Georgia.
General Robert L. Scott, Ace and author of 12 books including "God Is My Co-Pilot". He was really charismatic and still sharp at 90.

My 14 year old son just read “Unbroken” and was riveted. He could not put the book down. The book thoroughly illustrates the savagery of japanese at the time, and has the perspective of the prisoners witnessing the attacks on Tokyo by the Doolittle raiders. So there is hope for the next generation. Try and teach as many young people as you can before you leave this earth, that’s my goal.
My 12 YO is fed a steady diet of WWII documentaries, movietone reels, and as much family history of WWII and WWI as we can dredge up.
Not hard to get him to watch.
And we include the War of Northern Aggression / War of the Rebellion history of his NC ancestors, who fought on both sides...and of course the motherlode, the Revolutionaries of the Piedmont, who included the Regulators....which is where ALL of this started!!!
“Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo” is one of my favorite films. Used to be able to watch it on YouTube for free but not anymore. Fortunately I’ve got the DVD.
We live in NC and I take them to historical sites and show them old war movies, all three of my kids watch them. Lots of great history here! I love the swamp fox, and now I will study the regulators.
He stayed in contact with the surviving members of the Doolittle Raiders and attended nearly every reunion the group held through the Final Toast in November 2013.
I should mention that General Scott was very patriotic and really hated Communism. He toured the would at one time speaking out against one world government.
Oh, he was more than an ace he was an ace four times over.
