Jerry Brown’s vow to slash oil use in California’s cars in trouble
The Sacramento Bee ^ | June 22nd, 2016 | By Dan Walters

The meltdown of California’s cap-and-trade system of reducing carbon emissions has not only thrown its climate change crusade into disarray but caused collateral damage.

One victim is Gov. Jerry Brown’s $3.1 billion plan to spend auction proceeds, now on indefinite hold. It not only affects a $500 million allocation for Brown’s bullet train project, but another $500 million for “low carbon transportation and fuels.”

The latter is a centerpiece of Brown’s very ambitious drive to reduce petroleum use in auto travel – the largest single source of California’s carbon emissions – by 50 percent by 2030 even though the Legislature indirectly rejected that goal last year.

Senate Bill 350, carried by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León, would have embedded the 50 percent cut in state law. But a bloc of business-friendly Democrats, backed by an intensive oil industry opposition campaign, stalled the bill in the Assembly.

The industry spent millions of dollars on television advertisements and mailings to brand SB 350 the “California Gas Restriction Act of 2015,” and Brown and de León were forced to remove the petroleum portion to save the remainder.

“I’d say oil has won a skirmish, but they’ve lost the bigger battle, because I am more determined than ever to make our regulatory regime work for the people of California,” an obviously angry Brown vowed.

The Bill in question would have mandated that all fuel sold in CA be no more than 50% petroleum by 2030 and 30% by 2020.

As with all committed lefties, Brown threatens to enact those standards even without legislative approval.

They always reveal themselves to be authoritarians and enemies of liberty.

The good news is that he won’t live to see it!

Go to the bone yard with your old Soviet top-down idea of governing, Comrade Brown. If there is anything more unattractive than a young Leftist, it’s an old Leftist. Most people outgrow those stupid ideas, but he got stuck in the university muck and never got out.

Instead of putting 4 quarts in the crankcase, just use one.

And liberals are especially utter know-nothing idiots!
What the hell does Governor “Moonbeam” Brown think car internal combustion engines will run on?
Unicorn farts?

That’s funny. Made my day. Thank you.

Reminds me of the time a college friend wanted a new car. Her dad told her okay but she first she had to sell the one she had. So she advertised it in the local paper. Guy came to look at it, pulled the dipstick out and said it was a couple of quarts low. Asked when she had last checked or changed the oil, she responded that the oil level was okay but she had lost the original dipstick and had to replace it with one that was too short. And yes, she was a blonde.

This is the same Jerry Brown who had state-employed geologists come and do a survey of his land to see if any Texas Tea might lie thereunder.

So, how long has Moonbeam been operating on less than the needed amount, or has he been on a daily regimen of 4qts of 80proof for years?

It'a hard to tell with him.

Moonbeam is a monumental hypocrite if he doesn’t WALK TO WORK.

Without regular gasoline, out of state people will no longer be able to drive to the popular destinations. That will cost the tourism industry dearly.

I had a similar experience with a girl I dated.
Her car had a terrible engine knock and was blowing smoke.
I asked her when was the last time she had an oil change?

“Oil change?” she replied. “What’s that?”

Oh, yeah, her father was a UAW member who worked in a Chrysler plant!

From the article: It requires refiners to reduce petroleum in fuel themselves, mostly by blending alcohol or other non-carbon fuels, or pay for reductions by others through a system of credits.

Uh...isn't the formula for ethanol C2H6O? Isn't it mostly carbon by molecular weight? If so (and I stand to be corrected if in error), then how in the hell do we come to the conclusion that ethyl alcohol is a "non-carbon" fuel? Looks like it's chock full of carbon to me.

As a Californian, I can proudly say that I never voted for this POS for any office he has run for in the Golden State. His father nearly ran this state into bankruptcy. It was Ronald Reagan who followed him as governor and brought back fiscal sense.

As for Junior, he was a bad governor his first time around, and even worse this second disaster. Plus, he was a lousy secretary of state and mayor of Oakland. All that one can say is that he has been consistent in all of the offices he has held. So, that makes him a consistent POS.

There was a story earlier this year about Moonbeam giving hybrid/electric cars away to the low-income types.

He can’t do this, because of the billions the State makes off of Gasoline taxes. So that means all other taxes have to rise as the gas revenue drops off. And considering it’s the middle class and poor who need transportation the most, they are the ones effected by this. Poor decision
