I’m highly suspicious of anyone respected by a Democrat, and moderately suspicious of anyone respected by a Republican. ;)

Anyone "highly respected" by Democrats and Republicans alike is probably blackmailed up to his balls in corruption and could fit the profile of being severely compromised like having tons of kiddie porn because everyone else in government likes kiddie porn too.
