Here's what we know and what most other people including too many in Congress don't know or want to know: The Bill of Rights isn't about what we can do; it's about what the federal government cannot do.
- It cannot abridge the freedom of speech or of the press, establish a religion or prevent exercise of one.
- It cannot infringe on bearing arms.
- It cannot put troops in people's houses without consent.
- It cannot search and seize however it likes.
- It cannot compel us to be witnesses against ourselves.
- It cannot withhold the nature of charges of against us.
- It cannot deny a jury trial.
- It cannot inflict cruel and unusual punishment.
- It cannot use what's listed above as an exclusive list of rights and deny others as a result.
- It cannot take more power than it's been explicitly given.
We need leaders who understand this and argue from this standpoint rather than most of the current ones who try to limit the infringement to something they consider acceptable under the circumstances.
