More than 1,280 executives, including directors from 51 FTSE 100 companies, have signed a letter backing the UK's membership of the EU.
The Remain camp said the letter to the Times showed "unprecedented" support from across business and finance.
Many signatories have already expressed support, but Remain said new names include Sir John Parker from Anglo American, and Barclays' John McFarlane.
Companies on the list employ 1.75 million people, Remain said.

“We know that Britain leaving the EU would mean having to re-establish terms of trade from scratch with our home market of 500 million consumers. That wouldn’t just hurt exporters but the hundreds of thousands of small and medium firms who do business with them”
How about a REALLY specific example of a problem this would cause.
Generally speaking, the quote above is a typical “tory” type of argument (as in tories of US revolution). They basically say, I don’t give a sh** what rights are trampled on as long as I’m making out ok.
The fact that the largest companies want to stay and the smallest are divided (per article) tells you the desire to stay is an elitist one. The EU deal works for big boys only apparently.
Haha, great article!
On joining ‘The Big G’: “We have the same Protestant work ethic as the Germans. We enjoy the same things, such as brass bands, rambling and driving German cars. We both consider the sausage the height of culinary sophistication. We prefer beer to wine. And guess which country has taken over from Germany as having the worst reputation for reserving sun loungers with towels? Thats right, us, according to a survey for Travel Supermarket. Imitation? Flattery?”
EU was EEC during Thatcher government in the 1980s. Thatcher was Mostly against Britain in EEC, both from a political and economic standpoint.
EU is a continuation nowadays.
The Brits have to consider multiple layers in their continued participation in the current EU.
Britain is not an ECONOMIC “powerhouse”, not by a long shot, as Germany is. There are other considerations for Britain - it’s politics and negotiations for Britain to remain or not in the current EU.
The world political system today is indeed corporatism as Nigel Farage described it at CPAC in 2015-Big Business, Big Government and Big Banks.
They as hostile to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to bear arms and other Constitutional rights.
Ah ah ALWAYS THE SAME OLD STRATEGY of fear and threats !
As if patriotism and the defense of one’s nation and democracy was equivalent to an uggly nationalism ???!!!
Tell us a little bit about globalism , super state , tyrany , international coomunism , big government , islamism and regimes like CHINA....
Or STFU and stop your very weak and OLD PROPAGANDA .
Merkel should resign
Sadly, I also predict that they will "count" to stay.
This vote is about the continued successful dismantling and destruction of Western culture. It always has been.
It will be allowed to continue regardless of the results.
I’m pulling for Brexit! They are fighting to end Globalism, just as we are in the USA. Remember that the suffocating EU started out as a “trade deal.” The Brits must vote leave to save their nation.
We MUST vote Trump to stop the takeover here. Our sovereignty is at stake. This election will seal our fate. We either take our nation back or we are doomed. It’s 1773 all over again. Decision time.
Please all, support and fight tooth and nail for Trump, or we are lost. Our foes are formidable. We must gain our freedom.
The entire Supreme Court is on the line. Hillary will tear up our Constitution. Her choices for the SC will ensure our enslavement. We could end up with Sharia Law as our supreme law of the land. This is serious. This is real.
Man up! Unite now behind Trump! His Supreme Court choices are stellar. They will uphold our Constitution. Amend those parts that have so twisted by Democrats rhetoric.
Our lives, our families, our posterity will be decided this election year. This is history in the making. I hear our Founders voices calling. God save the USA.
This should surprise no one. Large businesses have spent real money on long term investment strategies based on the assumed preservation of the status quo— continued membership in the EU. I would be absolutely shocked if they voted otherwise. Of course the reality may be they will be better off in the long term, but in terms of their short term obligation to their shareholders they must take the most defendable conservative path to protecting wealth. The unknown unknowns of leaving the EU makes a high confidence risk analysis too formidable a challenge.
Could you list how exactly the EU is a “tyrannic super state”?
For what factual reasons do you say the “British people are held in bondage by the EU bureaucracy”? Can you give an example?
The EU passes regulations on Britain without the British People having any say in the matter.
The UK opted out of many EU regulations including the Schengen and different rules on domestic policy.
I admit I haven’t yet watched all of “Brexit The Movie” but the third of it that I did watch convinced me beyond all doubt that the EU is pure, 100% evil. The MPs that are elected by the countries appear to have little to no say in the the machinery of the EU. Have you watched it?
I already hated the EU but this made me hate it much, much more. Tomorrow I’ll watch the whole thing, it’s an hour and 11 minutes long. Very well done.

Not just MEPs. The most important decision making group in the EU is the Council of Ministers, which formulates and decides policy. This consists of democratically-elected ministers from all the member states. As one of the largest and srongest member states, the UK's voice on this body is powerful.
The European Commission - the bureaucrats - is essentially an administrative body administering those policies. So the 'run by unelected Brussels bureaucrats' meme is itself mostly mythical. Britain is no more dependent on decision made by Brussels bureaucrats than it is on decisions made by British Civil Service bureaucrats in London. In both cases, the decisions are made by politicians who are ultimately accountable to their electorates.
