Sharon Tate's sister Debra has handed in a petition with 139,000 signatures on it to California governor Jerry Brown, appealing to him to intervene in the parole release of a Charles Manson follower.

The actress was murdered by Manson's gang at the age of 26 in August 1969.

Tate, who was eight months pregnant by film director husband Roman Polanski, was one of seven people killed in two separate massacres.

Sharon Tate was not in the Beverly Hillbillies.

It’s MUCH easier to do what Ms. Tate is doing than it is to endure life with those killers on the streets.

As long as any of them are alive, the ordeal continues for Ms. Tate and any other living relatives/friends.

All of those killers should have received death penalties, but apparently Cali hasn’t the stomach for justice. If each Cali resident got to have a taste of what the Tates went through, I’d venture to say that a good many of them would change their minds in a NY minute.

I applaud and sympathize with Ms. Tate’s efforts. Someone should have thrown away the cell keys of each of the Manson monkeys.

And the one who wants out...she’s lying. She is the same person now as she was when she went in...just older. Only now, the world has changed so much, she couldn’t cope with it and she’d end up back in the joint anyway. Just keep her there.

Teens ARE children. You don’t consider a 13 year old a child???

Sharon Tate (at right wearing a dark wig) as Janet Trego in the 1964 "Giant Jackrabbit" episode of The Beverly Hillbillies with Max Baer, Jr. and Nancy Kulp

I think she would go back to being on the fringes of life and society and end up under the thrall of a new master.

If Manson was an illegal from El Salvador he would have been out in 2 weeks.

Jerry Brown has released 40,000 criminals so far. One more will not matter to him.

This is one of the most terrifying murders ever committed in my lifetime. I was pretty young when it happened, but it was so horrifying to everybody, you were compelled to follow it as it evolved, until the Manson gang was caught and sent to prison. You can never forget it.

“Had Van Houten been involved in a murder that was not notorious and not of a person that notable, she would have been paroled years ago.”

Maybe. But she also might have gotten life without parole (especially post-’70s). And Karla Faye Tucker was executed.

Leslie Van Houten. Thank you, I hadn't heard about it, but I figured it would be her. I have a peculiar interest in this case, as it applies to our culture back in the late sixties and what I witnessed growing up in the city of Detroit. I witnessed the '67 riots, the '68 Tigers winning the world series, and the subsequent decline in the Home-town I had come to love. Detroit was a great place to grow up in, and I miss the friends and family that are still there.

ALL received death, but the Rose Bird Court overturned CA’s death penalty.

I haven’t read this particular story yet but did just see on TV that Jerry Brown didn’t meet with Tate’s family and they were told he was “unavailable,” apparently meaning “unavailable” to meet THEM.

Democrats need to be held accountable for the parole board’s decision and the governor even apparently considering releasing one of the murderers.

"Rose Bird" ?

*SPIT*

She probably looked at Manson's picture and
thought "we have to reform this nice young
man, not execute him!"

Ah, but you know that that was not the inference, don’t you? ;-)

What a contrast in times. In ‘69 there were maybe 1/2 dozen channels available on TV. News came on twice or three times a day.

Pay phones, landlines and phone books.

Savings and loans with passbooks.

.30/gallon gas.

Manual cash registers.

Cheap doctor visits.

Libraries with card catalogs.

Roladexes.

Typewriters.

Frozen food had to be heated on the stove or oven.

Film cameras.

Transistor radios.

MADE IN THE USA.

Dating.

Lawyers and prescription drugs didn’t advertise.

A McDonalds burger cost .20

A six pack of beer was $1.

Coffee was just coffee.

Shopping malls were all the rage.

Sears was the biggest retailer on the planet.

The Soviet Union was our enemy.

Mexico was a fun place.

A driver’s license got you into Canada.

You could show up 10 min. before the plane took-off, buy a ticket with cash and board it.

100 watt light bulbs.
