I believe you’re right but catholicism seems to ignore the original languages in favor of Latin.

It is. The word “kill” in Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17 is translated from Hebrew “ratsach”, which specifically means “murder”. Some Bible translations do translate it correctly.
