Probably because they do not hate terrorists.
Allow me to summarize the answe. It’s because they’re evil and insane.
There’s only one way to stop them.
Better question: “How can #NeverTrumpers hate us more than they hate the terrorists...?”
Because they think that the alligator will eat them last.
Liberals would rather be enslaved by Muslims than see freedom or Christianity flourish.
That is how much they hate you. It is all-consuming.

Because they both think America is “The Great Satan”.
Two reasons, IMO.
1) Republicans (note, "Republicans", not "Conservatives") are easily bullied.
2) Republicans are safe targets that don't shoot back. (yet).
It's roughly the same reason why PETA fanatics attack little old ladies in fur coats, instead of Biker Gangs wearing leather jackets.
Dennis Prager discusses this in his book “Still the Best Hope” from 2012. There is a war of the world views: islamo-fascist, liberal secular and Judeo-Christian.
The liberal-seculars look at the Judeo-Christian and are afraid of a potential Christian theocracy. The saying “tyranny will come waving a US flag and carrying a Bible” is the codification of this belief, and why they react viciously to any Christianity based refusal to their agenda.
The liberal-seculars look at Muslims as poor ignorant and oppressed people - defacto victims. They overlook the prior and recently violence, assuming they’ll turn into liberal secularists once educated.
They ignore the fact that Islam has a much stronger social reinforcing network to prevent that, and that it hates and calls for the death of many liberal demographics such as atheists and homosexuals.
But liberal seculars ignore that, instead choosing to reflexively blame their religious neighbors for “cultural atmosphere” for what Muslims do while bashing those who criticize Islam. And they do so to civilization’s peril.

Easy: They live in a world of delusion and illusion. They are aliens from another universe, so cannot relate to reality. The scary part is that many of these aliens vote.
Because that’s what they have been indoctrinated to “feel” from primary school right through college and graduate programs. Add in most media platforms being leftist propaganda organs and it’s pretty easy to see how they get there.
