It’s just a knee-jerk reaction, actually. If we are to accept “Russian” excuses for invading whatever country they’ve invaded last “because Kosovo,” then the Kosovo intervention was ok, too. Something is either good or bad, not both.
What do you do when in this case, they’re right and we’re terribly wrong?
