I just love it when people post in bold. It's even better when they do it in italic!

But, seriously, why did you wimp out and not post IN ALL CAPS? Get with the program.

The first step to controlling your diet is to maximize the dollar/calorie ratio.
You eat for calories- first.
Then ‘balance’ that diet for nutrients and for source variety.

This method instantly and constantly rewards you for ‘healthy eating’.
It’s easy to adapt it to your preferences.

So it works.

But it’s the money savings that makes the difference, and for that benefit you have to put calories/dollar first.

when we were kids, we were outside all day playing...climbing trees...playing games...

we ate tremendous amts of food...but we never had chips or candy or a lot of sweets...homemade cookies were made occasionally...we never had soda except if you were sick my father would bring home ginger ale...ginger ale solved everything...

my weight was pretty good until I got married...we started drinking soda a lot and eventually diet soda and non fat milk.....both of our weights just went up and up...

In the morning straight out of bed rather than touch my toes, press my knuckles to the floor, no loosening up

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

No exercise when you first wake up? You should try my routine.

Every morning when I first wake up, it’s 10 repetitions,up, down, up down. Then I do my other eye lid the same way.

look at Americans in the 40's.....all thin or mostly all thin....

has the food changed?...the activity?...

I really think its the amount of food we eat....

remember when McDonalds had a "full meal" for under a dollar?....you were happy to get a small drink, a small hamburger and a small fry...

now, its jumbo this and jumbo that...

Thank you for the wise counsel.

‘Polyunsaturated fat can be found mostly in nuts, seeds, fish, algae, leafy greens, and krill.’ (Wiki) I’ll do my best. I agree that we all need sugar and that excess sugar leads to problems.

Refined sugar or worse the fructo-glucose stuff is unhealthy and addictive -- highly addictive.

To get off it, I would suggest a diet based on purely home-cooked food using fresh vegetables, meats etc -- limiting carbohydrates for each meal to about the size of your fist.

Try, for 3 weeks to have:

Finally, I would also suggest something like Les Mills bodypump twice or thrice a week and to get a 25 minute minimum run (or jog or run-walk-run). Use weights also and some pull ups and push ups

For sweets and all -- after your three weeks are over, you won't feel the urge to "must have sweet every day". After the three weeks if you treat yourself to a cake or something a couple of times a week, why not? The main thing is for you not to be "must have sugar every day" -- and I know, it was for me a must-have as well.

In terms of fast and convenient, I’m surprised at how little time some home-cooked, healthy foods take to make

Sugar as in the refined sugars we have is not healthy and in fact very addictive. Complex sugars in fruits are healthy.

fat is healthier than sugar. Due to the fat scares in the 60s and 70s, we got food loaded with refined sugars

Though of course note that as a child your metabolism is higher than as an adult

I watched a documentary on Netflix called Sugar Coated which was very good, with some of the same info.

I fully agree with MK Borders -- cut out soda, ice tea, energy drinks and you will instantly get healthier. Plain water, or tea and coffee (watch the sugar -- I drink both black with no sugar and maybe a dash of milk in coffee sometimes)

Cut out all processed sugar, especially HFCS -- you can get your energy from apples, kiwis, bananas and now is fruit season, so yay to strawberries!

Bread in excess is bad -- and limit it to the sourdough

MK Borders - losing 120lbs in 12 months -- congratulations!! Great job! If you want to lose the last 10 lbs I would suggest a simple routine:

And that's it -- I did use Les Mills Bodypump and was very pleased with it -- but it can be higher commitment

I did the same thing. I had been exercising daily, but recently staring drinking a few hard ciders a day and then came the pizza, etc. It doesn’t take long to put the weight back on. This thread is motivating me to get back to the gym ASAP.

Glad you brought that up.

It is processed sugar I gave up.

High carb food, potato, rice, pasta is in effect also sugar. At least that is what your body turns it into so it can be used.

Fact of the matter is ALL food has sugar, it's a natural element and essential for our bodies. So if your diabetic you need to watch that.

But the trick here is the processed stuff that nearly all our ready made food products is slathered with. Check the labels, sugar, HFCS, in everything. Even the healthy stuff, like energy bars and trail mixes.

Sugars make food taste better to our addicted taste buds. Makes us want/crave to eat more.

Yes it is addicting. Maybe the most addicting thing we do and its tuff to break free for most and near impossible for some. I have had people get in my face, angry in some cases, and say it can't be done. For them its a long ugly fight and many will lose.

Our culture is killing us my friends. Can't praise the Real Food movement enough.

Thanks for tips. Day two. Doing well. Got up early. Drinking wawa. Staying active. Feels good. Fortunately for being mostly sedentary, I can be very mobile, and a little on the athletic side when I put my mind to it. My goal is 50 pounds. I would be very content with that. I have about 46 to 47 to go.
