SitRep: U.S. Diplos Slam Obama Syria Policy; JSOC and CIA Team Up On Drones

Diplomatic revolt. Over 50 U.S. diplomats have signed an internal State Department memo sharply critical of the Obama administration’s Syria policy, in which they call for airstrikes against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The memo says Washington’s Syria policy has been “overwhelmed” by the continuing slaughter of civilians in Syria, and demands “a judicious use of stand-off and air weapons, which would undergird and drive a more focused and hard-nosed U.S.-led diplomatic process.”

The memo, sent along an established “dissent channel” within State that allows officials to vent frustrations and suggest changes in policy, would flip the existing American policy on its head, and there is little sign that the White House is open to changing course. The current strategy calls for airstrikes against the Islamic State, while participating in negotiations with the regime and the Russians. Those talks, led by Secretary of State John Kerry, have all but collapsed amid the continued bombing of civilian targets by Syrian and Russian aircraft.

More than 400,000 people have been killed in fighting in Syria since 2011, and over 11 million have fled the country or are internally displaced, according to U.N. figures.

Sounds like Hussein and Hillary want to do the same thing over and over again...Assad is holding his country together, the same thing Saddam did, no I don’t like either one of them, but Hussein and Hillary are the Father and Mother of ISIS....

And that is ISIS...not ISIL...Israel had nothing to do with ISIS...

The Russians get a vote.

And they vote no.

But these idiot diplomats can quit their cushy jobs and join the infantry at any time...

Bomb Assad?! That train left the station when we let Putin deploy a bunch of troops to Syria without realizing what was happening.

There are times when doors close on options. Bombing Assad when he is surrounded by Russians is inviting a hot conflict we don't need. Syria isn't worth it.

What we need a plan for is what happens if ISIS ceases to be an organized fighting force? Are Putin and Assad going to turn all of their attentions towards groups the US supports? My guess would be yes, because they are already attacking those groups. If we don't have a plan l, we end up with two bad choices. Cutting and running, or a fight with the Russians. I have no doubt we could wipe out the Russian contingent in Syria, but the long term affects would directly shift the course of US foreign policy for at least a decade.

We wanted to get rid of Assad Then we covertly shipped weapons via Benghazi and other ports of entry. Then Obama backed off supposedly after the mess in Libya.

It's a spinoff of the 911 wars of revenge I guess. It's never going to end in our lifetimes but could be the end of America. Fires every summer out west like never before. Not that that has anything to do with anything but maybe it's a divine "scorched earth" warning.

No, that's all crazy. I just should have said I don't know but I try to think what things would be like if we had exercised more restraint before we got involved in Kuwait the way we did. They are not really our friends. None of them. It's about oil and a scramble for world control by the elite and super rich. And a whole lot more, much of it not PC and not just about Muslims.

We are in a stage where no mater what happens, TPTB use it to their advantage. All the incompatible cultures being intermingled limit the peoples' ability to fight back.

I wonder if these are the same diplos that goaded Bush into toppling Hussein and goaded Obama into toppling Qaddafi, and thereby induced the Mideast vacuum that allowed ISIS to come to power?

“I have no doubt we could wipe out the Russian contingent in Syria, but the long term affects would directly shift the course of US foreign policy for at least a decade”

So we attack and wipe out all the Russian forces in Syria. Which I agree we could do. But sinking ships. downing planes, bombing bases, etc..... and you think it would “shift the course of US foreign policy for a decade”

Utterly insane. I stand amazed at how many people actually seem to want a war with Russia, and think they will just accept it and move on.
The comical part is that its all to help a bunch of anti Christian goat humpers like the Orlando shooter to depose Assad who isn’t really such a bad guy in the middle east. The only thing wrong with him is that he doesn’t dance to the Saudi sunni tune.

But of course, wars are cool and fun! We should move beyond needing a national interest to get in one. And we should expand to nuclear superpowers.

The answer is stay out and let Russia spend their assets there. The whole area is unraveling into pre-WWI divisions. Let it go.
