That is a good idea from a technical view, but I think that the few Americans around Fallujah want/are being kept away from the handling of the male detainees/refugees. Everyone expects war crimes to occur. I would not want put a subordinate at risk for getting caught up in that mess. Stay clear and file protests.
The Iraqi Army has the equipment to test for gun shot residue, and they have been the ones on the forward edge, capturing fresh prisoners. No idea if they use it.
The militiamen to the rear have been holding the perimeter, and screening refugees, would have to have been issued equipment (unlikely), and escaping jihadis would probably have cleaned up before running (some might still test positive though).
I would hope that they have some lists developed by the intel guys (Iraqi and Iranian, maybe more), to screen the refugees against. The standard treatment in Iraq for anyone who is detained, is to smack them around a bit - so I would expect that to be the typical screening process, here more than usual. Anybody who seems like a foreigner is in big trouble (quite a few Saudis there, I understand).
Forgot to mention K-9 bomb/explosives sniffing dogs. My son was a K9 police officer for a number of years, with a beautiful female Belgian Malinois (who died last year of brain cancer).
Also, there are explosives sniffing handheld kits for battlefield and crime-scene use.
Ah, modern technology. Ain’t it great? So is the old slap the boys around technique or the “Talk or I’ll kill you” method. Not found in modern military or police manuals but I’m old school. If you mess with a radical’s head, you can do a lot to make them talk, voluntarily.
And then, I’ve been told, that killing the guy next to the one you want to talk, is also effective. I’ve been reading too many tough guy books, I guess.
Dogs would be a great idea with all those IEDs, but I don’t recall seeing the Iraqis (or any Arab Police or Military) use them.
A friend of mine brought back a Belgian Malinois - they are among the ten smartest breeds of dog. It sometimes seems like they don’t need the associated human to do the job. They really seem to know what is going on.

Downriver from Mosul on the Tigris are Baghdad and Basra, which are major assets of the Shia.
Except for the Kurdish area in the North, the Iraqi population is clustered along the two great rivers. The great bulk of the Arab population lives within walking distance of one of the rivers. Unlike most Arab Cuisine, a big roast river fish is a typical Iraqi dish.
Flooding the river would be wanton genocide. Not that there are not many fans of genocide among them, just that it would hit both sides of the sectarian divide unacceptably hard.
Blowing the Mosul Dam would also be quite a feat for the Iranians - until they have nukes.

One of my nephews, John Thomas Wrobloweski was killed in early fighting in Fallujah.

I have a feeling the Iraqi Army’s ROE isn’t as concerned about the poor, downtrodden ISIS fighers human rights (clearly just fighting because of Donald Trump). And I’m okay with that.

It is not just about the town. In Fallujah, we were fighting al Queda in Iraq.
We will likely have to fight these islamic supremacists for a long time - until we in the West face up to the reality of their movement, and their Saudi backing.

Mostly I do google searches on current hot spots (e.g. Fallujah), looking for news.
I also go to twitter (searching for #Fallujah, and #Manbij for example). That is where I find a lot of very current and detailed info, often from people on site. It is not vetted, so you have to use your judgement, and be aware of bias. There is a contest of opinions there - ISIS fans post their story, Iranian media, Turkish, Kurdish, Russian, etc.
I am retired military, and deployed over there a few times.
Fallujah should have been a parking lot the first time, the rubble should be bouncing again.

From the looks of some of the clips online, more physical damage seems to have been done this time around (they are likely showing some of the worst though).
They were popping heavy artillery into the city for several months prior to the ground assault, and it has been a virtual free fire zone this month.
I expect the Shia militias to continue destroying buildings for some time after the fighting stops, “clearing mines and IEDs”. They were reported to have done that in Tikrit and Baji, but Fallujah is the motherload for them to get back for Sunni atrocities. 80% of the car bombs striking Baghdad were from Fallujah.
Defeating ISIS means nothing. Another name will pop up for the same evil “religion”. Islam is the threat, and fighting in the Middle East makes no sense. The enemy is here and that is the threat to the US.
Islam must be banned, mosques closed, and Muslims deported.
