LONDON — A rising star in Britain’s Parliament was shot and stabbed to death Thursday in an attack that stunned the nation and brought the country’s European Union referendum campaign to an abrupt halt just a week before the vote.

The killing was of the sort that has become all too common in the United States, but is virtually unheard of in Britain: without warning, hyper-violent and ultimately, perhaps, inexplicable.

It claimed as its victim Jo Cox, a widely respected 41-year-old member of the center-left Labour Party who won election last year after a career in humanitarian work and who was widely respected for her outspoken advocacy on behalf of refugees and civilians in Syria

Obviously misreported - there are no firearms in Britain - except in the hands of soldiers.

"widely respected"
WP doublespeak.
More truthfully, widely despised for her role in smoothing the path of thousands of undocumented Syrians into her country.
And going by the days events, despised was an understatement for one individual.

You might take a somewhat kinder view of Jo Cox if you read a little more about her background and character.

Tragic of course and no right minded person would wish for such a wicked act. What I do find however, especially in Canada is this. That the proponents of unlimited immigration are usually those that do not face the consequences.

It is a matter of logistics. Hospital staff strained to the limits. Not enough physicians per head of population. Long waiting lists for affordable public housing. Various government agencies such as child welfare and elderly care facing pressure of overwork.

The proponents of this kind of immigration rarely themselves face the problems of the average ordinary citizen. Thus they enable immigration and close their eyes to the ultimate problems.

Oddly enough, the first time I heard of Jo Cox was a just a couple of days earlier, when she motored down the River Thames in a small rubber dingy, to get in the way of the BRexit flotilla, with two very small children in the prow. Nothing could be more irresponsible I thought at the time (perhaps she was hoping her dingy would be run down and that there would be more pictures of drowned infants to further her cause).
