A lot of people, myself included, did not think that The Donald was serious at first, that this was just an exercise in the flexing of ego, and after maybe a less than stellar performance, The Donald would quietly go back to the Trump Tower.

But unexpectedly, the recognition factor kicked in early, and the rise in the polls were meteoric. And the message, once the background static cleared up, did not merely resonate with a broad swath of Americans, it was rebooted, it was remastered, and it was powerfully amplified across the land. The Donald did not have to ask any of the media for coverage, they simply GAVE it to him, in some instances to the near exclusion of just about everybody else’s coverage. This was the best Presidential race story in YEARS, if not decades.

I was pushing, at first for an early favorite (Scott Walker), but there turned out, in the end, to be too little financial assistance, and later for Ben Carson, but again, probably not enough fire in the belly for the game, and possibly mismanagement by his staff in poor allocation of resources.

With growing admiration of The Donald, when it came around to the Florida vote, I gladly added my vote to his total, and from that day on, it was apparent that even a principled conservative such as Ted Cruz, had faltered in popularity to the degree that recovery was becoming far too great a challenge.

Is The Donald a conservative? Hell no, and I do not care. He is, for right now, the #NeverHillary, and that is enough to keep me fueled up.

The terms conservative and liberal seem to be part of the Hegelian dialectic which is designed to keep people divided into two camps—divide and conquer. We have to stop thinking of ourselves as “conservatives” and start thinking of ourselves as Americans. Are we doing what Americans are supposed to do according to the Constitution.
