I asked that question went we first sent troops there. I said at the time that the only way to fix that country was to either kill everyone (everyone) and colonize or force conversion to Christianity and make the practice of islam a capital offense. But the latter would have required 100 years of occupation.
Just kill them all and let God sort them out.
There are good people in Afghanistan - but no good way to separate them the dirt monkeys and the devils.

My father pointed the folly of the entire occupation out when I was in high school and considering joining the army because I wanted blood. He correctly predicted that we would NOT fight a war and would try to spend years doing mostly with secular force of arms what needed to be done religiously - mass conversion to Christianity - and it would not only fail horribly but we would then be blamed for every time one brand of turdbag killed another and killed a GI or three in the process.
As usual he was absolutely correct.

As I originally thought when Bush sent troops to “liberate” Kuwait, every foreign power who ever got into it in the Middle East got brutalized. Even before Christianity and Islam existed this was the case. Apparently all these oh so wise national leaders in the West are incapable of learning from experience.
We defend the Saudi’s for their oil and they spend the money exporting Wahabiism and create ISIS which now wants to storm Saudi Arabia and take Mecca but the Saudi’s are busy pushing more Wahabiism into the USA and we have terrorist attacks and the US “leaders” respond by telling everyone to be nice to the Saudi’s and disarming American people who had nothing to do with any of it but we are also allied with Afghanistan which country also chewed up any foreign occupier - American, Russian, British, Ottoman and on and on ad infinitum ad nauseum...... and we fight the Taliban for years but now that they are fighting ISIS we help them.....and we help the Kurds and then we don’t and then we do and then we don’t..... and we even end up supporting Khadafi.... ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

more proof yet why Afghanistan would be the perfect place for nuclear weapons testing . Don’t we have a stash of neutron bombs we need to see if they still work ?
Reminds me of when “Little Joe Cartwright” (Michael Landon) was on the old Johnny Carson Show. Went something like
Johnny: “So now tell me, it's rumored that the Cartwright boys were gay - being out there on the ranch with no women around for miles and miles.”
Landon: “Oh I've heard that - it's ridiculous!”
